scientific about it that you gotta be OD specific to
get the best from the bean. I don't do that, I stick to a light and medium roasts for iced coffee or cold brew. Medium and dark roast for espresso and hot coffee. I recommend a pour-over coffee for hot coffee. Throw away the coffee maker. Get you a coffee grinder that can do espresso and regular grinds. Iced coffee =/= cold brew. Make sure your ratios are right for espresso and cold brew or you will get an unbalanced taste and can't taste the flavors in the bean. My opinion: good coffee don't need cream or sugar.

You want to see the tasting notes and the roast on the bag or be familiar with the tasting notes from the bean origin. I have mad mixed results from buying similar bags of coffee from grocery stores, Whole Foods to Kroger... I go to coffee shops or roasters and compare notes with them.
Get whole beans and grind them at home. My philosophy is food and beverage is 'bout exploring and developing your personal taste and preference and build from there. All that expensive rocket scientist shyt get in the way of enjoying the simple pleasure of your taste.
