Run the World- never really checked for it. All I know is I had played 3 minutes of the first episode, I heard the lady pronounce “boh-dega” as “Boo-dega”, then they pull up witch the stereotypical outdated NYC phrases as spoken by Hollywood, with the “oh we’re hip, we even added the bacon, egg and cheese” to sound “down”. F that show. Which gentrifier wrote this?? Lol. I also knew it was dub status when she stopped right in the middle of the sidewalk to put on her lipstick - irl
You don’t stop in the middle of an nyc street, on a Monday morning at that, with people trying to get to where they’re going, block the way without getting ran up on or cursed at for being in the way.
and proceeded to click that ish right off. I didn’t give it a second thought. I am extremely picky when it comes to sitcoms. They also lost me when I checked to see that none of the actresses are from Harlem and none of them are from New York.
A sitcom that’s portraying interactions that have no relatability and lacks authenticity, gives off The Chi vibes - That’s a pass. “Flatbush Misdemeanors” is holding me down though. I think this is the best new release culture oriented sitcom that I’ve seen in years. The entire cast is from NY with the exception of one actor/comedian who’s from Texas - but you can easily tell that he’s been on the New York scene for years, I wouldn’t have known he wasn’t. It’s also a show based on experiences- written and contributed to by people from there instead of random writers trying to craft an experience.
