It sounds like you need a budget. A budget poses the question "Where is my money going?" instead of "Where did my money go?" It can be some work to set it up, but it's worth it. At least reconcile your accounts more regularly, at least before trips to the store. You should know how much you have to spend so you won't be embarrassed.
