Saw the PPVs weren't starting in January like the weekly shows. Guessing they prolly holding off until All In since it's their biggest event. Saw it was for a discounted price. Gotta see how much of a discount it would be cuz I have Max. I'm sure paying an extra $5 or $10 a month doesn't seem too bad especially compared with having to deal with streams shutting down or constantly buffering.
They crazy for giving up PPVs imo if the numbers they were doing were truly accurate
Selfishly would have loved to see them do with PPVs what WWE did but that’s a lot of money to cannibalize.
The AEW PPV business is generating easily in excess of $50 million in revenue a year. Over the length of the 3-4 year deal that’s $150-200 million that you’re giving up in the hopes it pays off elsewhere down the line. And when that payoff comes it might not even be until after this current deal ends.
That’s an awfully big gamble to take in a wrestling environment that is not at all friendly for the #2 company with how hot WWE is.
PPV revenue is the one variable revenue source they have that does consistently well, from a business perspective that’s something you have to stick with until the writing is on the wall that it’s not going to work much longer.
