The Polygon review is some straight up fake woke nonsense, he’s mad at the game because and ND for how they depict humans and how they would act in that situation and always being violent instead of building positivity
correct me if I’m wrong, and I know the world is going through some shyt right now, but I’m not sure he knows how the world would react if The entire Earth Civilisation broke down and was 90% wiped out by a brain regenerating fungal virus
So, I read the Polygon review after reading this, since I don't usually check Polygon. I came away with two points.
1: A lot of the reviewer's issues start with the end of the first game, and effectively boil down to being upset that the characters don't make the choices she wanted them to. I'm starting to get tired of seeing that kind of criticism in media, but games get it the worst. If we're going to push for games to have storytelling on the level of other forms of media, we need to stop shytting on creators for not going along with fan theories, or the stories we made up in our head. Ultimately, it's their story to tell.
2: The criticism of the character responding to their situations with violence and anger didn't sit well with me, either, especially with it making reference to the current protests. It's saying that violence isn't the answer from the viewpoint of someone who sounds like they don't completely understand how someone could be driven to anger and violence after having basic rights or something/someone close to them taken from them repeatedly.
Matter of fact, she probably should've left the bit comparing the game to now out. I imagine there are people who read that as less a criticism of the game, and a criticism of the protests themselves.
