The show was okay.
The lack of infected HURT the show.
They want you to care about a “cure” but then you hardly see any infected and instead multiple communities who are doing well so it’s like what’s the big deal?

What show were you watching that had multiple communities doing well? I saw one. The QZ was being bombed by terrorists... Detroit was completely fukked... Two people in the snow ain't a community.. His bro's community would be 1... And there weren't any after that unless you count the hospitalThe show was okay.

Yeah, I’d say the hospital was more of an outpost than a community.
It was really just the first QZ in Boston, KC went to hell, Jackson is normal, the community of cannibals is basically on its last breath, and thats about it.

It at no point ever felt like a world on the edge of survival/extinction. The communities and people have adapted. So why am I meant to care about a cure/vaccine plot line regarding infected you hardly even see?
It’s like The Walking Dead, the bigger threat are other humans not the zombies. So a cure/vaccine storyline is nothing to care for.

Let me get this straight, you think looking for a cure for fungus that infects humans and turns them into human killing zombies should not be a major plot line in a Zombie movie?
This isn’t a real Zombie/infected show.
It’s a drama with infected/zombies as the backdrop.
It is not about the infected and never will be. It was the same with The Walking Dead. Other Humans are the primary antagonists and bigger threat. Thats why the show went a third of its season without the main characters encountering the infected.

I couldn't disagree with you more in that I think the numerous zombie encounters actually hurt The Walking Dead.
TWD zombie encounters became mundane and boring because although they were numerous, they were slow and stupid.
TLOU infected are actually threatening, and you got more of a sense that coming across one or two meant almost certain death. Having multiple episodes where the protagonists fight them would have diminished that, and taken away the viewers suspension of disbelief.
Besides, you make it sound like every community in TLOU was thriving... they weren't. Each one showed various levels of basically fascist society -- resources were scarce, and controlled by a single authority. No freedom of movement, or real economic opportunities. Only one had managed some sort of socialistic commune.
Maybe the show didn't express this in the best way, but the importance of a vaccine is to allow all the things you take for granted IRL that the characters didn't have in the show. Life sucked for most people because of the imminent fear of infection.
That doesn’t mean the show is about the cure. It is about Joel and Ellie’s relationship and about people living in a desolate world. It is not a chosen one/save the world/stop the infected or we all die story. That is why the show will have a second season and can continue to go on.
If the cure/infected mattered like how you say, then it would be clear that Joel has doomed everyone remaining and the story/show would have no reason to even continue.
The Walking Dead didn’t become mundane because of the zombies breh. It was mundane because the show has no end goal for the characters so they just repeated the same scenarios each season.
The last of US’s infected are barely on screen. I never said they need to fight them every episode but if you want me to care about a cure/vaccine plot point then they should be in 90% of the episodes to underline what is supposedly at stake.
The communities were desolate but adapted. It was not as if humanity in the show was on the verge of becoming extinct. If it was Joel would have no choice to give up Ellie because even if he didn’t they would eventually be overun and killed anyway making the decision pointless. But in the last of us world you can still live for years because they’ve adapted to the conditions.

You will not find this movie/show.. Ever since Romero first started, the story is ALWAYS about how humans react to this new threat. Episode after episode, hour after hour, movie after movie of "run from zombies... oops they killed someone... run from zombies... oops they killed someone... fight zombies.. oops they killed someone........" is fukking boring.
Especially in zombie shows that don't elevate the zombies to new heights with powers (think RE series), what's there to fear after the 5th episode? You know what they gonna do, how to beat them, how to avoid them, strengths, strategy, all that.. Hell, from TWD first season, they should have walked around in zombie guts the entire rest of the show and avoided anything ever going wrong.
That's why you need the human element.. And even that gets boring. But there's has to be some intelligent enemy with other motives besides eat eat eat, dumb zombies for 60 episodes
