‘Last Kingdom’ Star Talks Show’s ‘Word-of-Mouth’ Popularity – Variety

“The Last Kingdom” Season 4 debuted on Netflix on April 26, with the epic historical fiction series remaining in the streamer’s Top 10 shows ever since.

Series star Alexander Dreymon said in an interview with Variety that he credits the fans of the show with building up buzz as the show has progressed.

“The fans have been amazing,” Dreymon said. “It’s been a word-of-mouth thing. We’ve never had a lot of advertising. We somehow manage to survive anyway and that’s all thanks to the fans. They’re extremely supportive, extremely kind and very enthusiastic. We’re all very grateful.”

Dreymon also called out a particular fan who goes by the Instagram handle Domestic Uhtred. Dreymon had to stop watching Domestic Uhtred’s videos as he found himself reading his lines for the show, but hearing Domestic Uhtred’s voice.

“The Last Kingdom” has never been known for its battle scenes, but Season 4 featured what are perhaps the biggest in the show’s history. Dreymon says that the show’s production team pulled out all the stops to make this season look even better than the others.


“I am stunned by how our whole team manages to pull this off,” Dreymon said. “Season 4 looks bigger and more costly than the previous seasons. We didn’t have a bigger budget. When you’re in the midst of [the battle scenes], with the stunt teams that are distributed on each attacking line, and you see just all these horses racing towards you with these guys in armor with swords and spears, it is so impressive. You just have adrenaline pumping. It gives you a little taste of what it really must have been like.”

RIP to Beocca :mjcry:, RIP to taking back Bebbanburg :mjcry:, Aethelred died :blessed: but then we were forced to spend the season following eardwulf :comeon:, eardwulf died :blessed:


Osferth in the cut like :francis: bc Finan is definitely smashing Eadith now :mjlit:. He can join the club with Aldhelm the original friend zone simp :mjlol:, dude was literally standing guard while Uhtred was in his crush's guts. Edward is the WOAT king and his sister is 10 times the leader than he is. Can we kill Heastan already tired of that cockroach plot device :scust:


Sygtrigger wasn't that bad, seems like Uhtred Lite tbh. Uhtred stuck on babysitting duty now, he's going to get attached to the kid and then Edward will be like "I'll be taking that back now :jawalrus:"

Just finished and I'm about to re-watch the first 3 seasons to keep TLK on the top 10 on Netflix :blessed:

I thought this season was stronger in the beginning. By the end, we had a dispersed story because of all the characters. It lost the focus it had on the first 3 seasons being in on Uhtred and Alfred.

It was a solid season though. And kept us fed while we in quarantine :mjcry:

Hoping there is a Season 5 announcement soon.

DESTINY IS ALL.

Just finished season 4. Thought the season was really about Edward and aflered. Just how Alfreds children and wife move after his passing. Sucked to see father Beocca but he went out like a G.

Seeing Uthred interacting with his kids was dope. I like how they are like him and chose their own path.

I still think season 4 was the weakest season so far.

Me and my woman watched seasons 1-3 together before the season premiere, her first time ever seeing the show and she thought the same thing.

Midway through s4, the shows writing must have changed hands.
