david blatt drew up a play to do just that in game 4 of the cavs/bulls series in 2015 when the score was tied with 1.5 seconds left. lebron told him i want the ball and the play was changed, lebron hit the game winner.

Pip was the elder statesman on that team and had a bunch of championship experience(I know Detlef Schrempf was on that team, but he didn't have the level of gravitas Pippen had).

That Blazers team had enough to beat the Lakers, they needed someone to calm the kids down when they were up 15 and had the Lakers on the ropes in Game 7 and Pippen couldn't do it.

What's interesting is I was old enough to watch that game live and it was made a big deal that MJ visited Ron Harper before that game 7 and not Pippen... I don't think MJ wanted him to win and get one more ring than him

i can understand scottie's feelings in that situation but at the same time he let it get to that point where everything boiled over for him at that instant. its something he should have addressed with phil earlier that season to let him know he wants the ball with the game on the line or even right then and there when the play was drawn up for kukoc.

i imagine as a coach a player throwing a fit is less likely to get you to change your mind than a player showing extreme confidence. lebron gave his coach a chance to reconsider while pippen told his coach im out. i say that not discounting the differing success of the two coaches. while understanding pippen's frustration in that moment you can also say from phil's perspective with everything that had happened that season if pippen hadnt let his feelings known previously how was he to know that scottie would be bothered at all or ultimately as bothered as he was by not getting the ball.

If it was any other superstar MJ included, the results would have changed to play or their reaction may have been the same as Pips. They went into what Jordan's and phil's issues were with krause but for pip, how was it supposed to play out? Krause scouts pip. Falls in love with his game. Trades to get him in the 87 draft. Then in 97, pip hates him outta nowhere and krause wants to trade him. That's how it was supposed to go?

And him sitting out against the knicks - the series they got sent home in - they were supposed to skip over that part? The part pip said he would do again?
