Amazingly beautiful movie:wow:

10/10

They should have released this closer to Oscar season:why:

This is one of the best of the year, I thought. I can put down more later, but brilliant, raw, beautiful, emotional film making, at it's finest. The final shots are gorgeous, haunting, painful. It's really a stunning movie, and I choked up in one scene, at least, right when another character did. The kind of contemplative movie that takes you outside yourself, and into the movie, almost entirely. The acting is so perfect, Jimmies Dad? That was an amazing performance. There was so much anger, regret, bitterness in the way his Dad spat those words out. impact.

Choked up? That scene had the tears flowing. I'm still :to: thinking about it.

That was one of the most powerful moments I've seen on film. I wasn't expecting that at all.

The ones on the corner? Probably not actors. But, the way "talking shyt" goes from funny to sad, to scary, to remorseful, was really deep, to me

I didn't think those characters would play such an important part of the story but they really added depth.

Kinda remind me off Jim Jarmusch meets Spike Lee.

Wasn’t what I expected but not bad. It’s like a Black film made for White People :manny:

Sucker Free City was better to me :hubie:

I watched this on amazon prime last night it was one of the dopest movies I’ve seen in a while. I loved the mythical quality of the movie from the score to Jimmy mirroring the young prince coming back to take his kingdom/castle and even the ending
Jimmy lying about his grandfather building the house creating this myth about his family and history in SF
. Great, great cinematography some of the shots in this film were straight beautiful and the score was excellent. Cool to see San Quinn as a little cameo as a SF Native.

hella international
Anyone who has seen and experienced gentrification first hand will 100% relate to this movie even if it does have a few missteps along the way.:mjcry:

We're so attached to these city streets and homes, driving ourselves to the brink to preserve our own perceived legacy. Although we fondly look after these homes, our grandparents never built them; the concrete gives way easier than sand, and block footprints get erased like they were never there.

We fight so hard, but maybe it's just inevitable. Like they say in the film, it ain't your loss, it's San Francisco's loss.

Shoutout to @Rastafarian42 for mentioning this being on Prime, I had no clue until I read his post. I watched this on there and was blown away. The cinematography is gorgeous, the soundtrack complimented the scenes very well, the acting felt so genuine. It felt less like a movie and more like an extremely well shot documentary about the effects of gentrification on this one group of people. The way the comedic relief eventually gave way to some of the most poignant drama in the film was brilliant too, because you could see it building. This might just be in my top ten of the year, this is a great film

This shyt was amazing. :noah:

The score meshed well with the trials and tribulations these two men go through and seeing the city's gentrification impacting those amongst it was something to behold. The cinematography was simply breathtaking. This is going on my top 10 films of the past year for sure.

Loved this. A quiet and subtle film about gentrification and identity without being on the nose. Beautiful cinematography and use of music. They call it A24 'cause it's A+ 24 karat gold quality.

The fact this wasn't nominated and Ford V Ferrari is not surprising, but how can you take a ceremony like that very seriously?
