Cinemax Returns To Action, Pulpy Series & Co-Prods In New Programming Strategy

They don't outright say it's canceled, but you can read between the lines. Cinemax wants more Banshee type shows (which is great) but The Knick was fukking incredible.

“I have to say right now, The Knick is one of the most rewarding creative experiences of my career,” Antholis said. “Critics loved the show, and I can’t tell you how many studio executives around town have told me it’s their favorite show on television, but it did not find an audience at the level that Banshee did. Even though in terms of an HBO show, The Knick is a modestly priced show; in terms of a Cinemax show, it started to throw our budget out of whack.”

Now, what should happen. Is HBO which owns Cinemax, should move The Knick to HBO, where they could give it a bigger budget, and more marketability. I always felt like The Knick fit better on HBO. I know in the beginning it was going to be bought by HBO, but Soderburgh requested it go to Cinemax, because he was worried about how projects get stuck in development hell at HBO.

But now that The Knick has had 2 successful critical seasons, HBO should take it over from Cinemax. Hopefully that's what happens.

The first season is possibly the single greatest season of television drama ever made.:wow:

I'd love to see anyone try and disagree.

I'd be for HBO picking it up and giving it proper treatment, but they have to start somewhere completely fresh for the most part. A lot of story arcs flat out ended at the end of season 2. Brilliant show, cinematography, score, cast, writing

season 1 was riveting as fuk but something went awry with the 2nd season. The move to completely shelve algernon was a bit of a head scratcher. You build him up as a co lead in s1 only for him to be 3rd/4th stringer the following season? :camby: letting us invest in he and Cornelia only to completely drop it was another suspect move

If it dies it dies:ehh:

It's believable in this day and age for a black man to get curved by white supremacy imagine back then? :wow:

dude Everett gallinger and chickering were getting more focus than Edwards which wasn't the case in s1.Had nothing to do with trying to mimic the time period it was a creative move like saying ok we are off that lets keep it traditional now
