I can respect this. There is nuance in all of these issues. We agree that there has been a benefit from these organizations.I got to hit you with one of these breh.
We've created an idol out of our struggle. Whether it's those who align with what they call the "black radical tradition" or those of us part of "legacy black institutions". The former love their lectures and the later love their luncheons and charity dinners. I'm not here for none of that. The various social network and relationships that grow from these are important no doubt but they only matter to the degree that the majority of black people are doing well. We're backsliding.
I recognize the historical wins and simply as a consequence of being from New York, I have indirect connections with some of these people (one notable figure provides a livelihood for a close relative). So it's not like I don't recognize what has or is being done. It's simply not enough and many of the prevailing "strategies" I just don't vibe with. There's too many stilted "let's bury the n-word in a grave" type thinking I'm seeing from the boule set. They still on that presentable "preferably" light skin shyt too as much as they would want to deny it.
I tend to think that we aren't fully utilizing the resources and access available to us from these people and organizations. I also think those of us who aren't from these backgrounds need to put in work in conjunction to what they are doing. We are closer to the communities and people who are suffering, and might have a better understanding of what can address/correct the problems.
But right now, they are the genuine power brokers in the community.
