Both Texas and OSU have better resumes. OSU has beaten 2 other playoff teams and lost to the #1 seed on the road by a pointWhat has Texas and OSU done to earn a bye over a conference champ?
Texas, maybe b/c they at least made it to the SEC title game.
AZ state and Iowa state made their conference chip by pure technicality. So did PSUIf byes go to "best team" they'll shoehorn the same 6-7 teams in every year
Every team's initial goal should be to win their conference. If you can't do that i dont wanna hear you crying on the backend
You have a valid point. However, there has to be some reward for winning your conference. Otherwise why even bother? If that's the case, Oregon should've gotten reps for the their second string yesterday, and ran all plays they never intend running again in the playoffs. Both Texas and OSU have better resumes. Texas and Clemson benefited from this too. These jumbo conferences created by realignment is one of the biggest drivers of this wacky ass bracket.
When the teams at the top of the conference don’t play each other H2H, it creates avenues for teams to be in their Conference Championship Game and/or the CFB discussion when they could have been exposed / pressure tested otherwise.
When barely any one of the top 4 in a conference play each other H2H, some of them probably potentially benefited from beating up on the bottom tier of conference opponents. And when they did play someone worth a damn, they lost.
IU, SMU and PSU were helped the most by this this year, next year it will be a different set of teams who benefit from having a weak in-conference schedule.
Granted, this is not an easy solution and I’m not saying those aren’t deserving teams given the current state of things but it’s a big factor in how the field is built.
I would maybe make last wk of conference play “dynamic” to create de-facto conference semi-finals to determine who gets to play in the conference championship.
ASU vs CU and BYU vs ISU
SMU vs Cuse and Clemson vs Miami
Logistical nightmare but providers further separation.
Texas got a layupAnd Oregon got hoed. The most difficult road for the #1 seed is wild. Will be a common occurrence if they stick with this dumb ass format and bracket structure. PDF Files St and ND benefit
No... seems to me, the committee created a hardline to reward teams getting to conference championship games as a way to keep the CCGs relevantThese jumbo conferences created by realignment is one of the biggest drivers of this wacky ass bracket.

That won't be the case long. CCGs going by the wayside soon
