I thought about this show a little bit more
in a lot of ways it reminds me of Ballers where you have really great pieces in the machine but it’s still not working correctly because you didn’t fine tune it.
like on paper this sounds like a hit but right now it’s just ok. I wouldn’t call this god awful yet

I think a couple things this show suffers from is that it sits on scenes a tad bit too long. Sometimes it works and other times it just drags.

Then (directly tied to it), they only have a singular focus on the two leads without any real subplots or agency for the supporting characters.

Euphoria was far from a great show to me but one thing it was strong in specifically in season 1 was branching storylines from multiple characters that allowed us to breath from zendaya’s main arc.

The Showtime Lakers show is another, even better example. It’s not just Magic or Jerry Buss. It was fun seeing all the other characters get focus.

Idol actually has a charismatic cast, particularly the managers and agents, but they don’t got shyt to do. Even the personal assistant chick got charm but she’s stuck in a one-note role.

Thought those two Weeknd songs were light, but I have played Take Me Back about 10x now, back to back, so have to reverse that opinion

Aside from that, I'm actually enjoying this show and the storyline is great I just wish Weeknd was a better actor. He comes off like such a dweeb in this where you're taken out of the show and wondering why would she or any of these people believe in this guy? Would be much better with an actor that has way more range and presence on the camera.

I honestly think that we are supposed to find the character cringey. I don't believe he's supposed to be charismatic or complex. I think we are supposed to acknowledge that Jocelyn is broken and she broke a long time ago. Her mother and the industry broke her and now she's not use to anything but abuse. Tedros is a cringey, creepy, predator. Nothing more and nothing less.

Haim and Destiny see right through his bullshyt. The only one that seems to be sucked in by him is Xander. Xander is also cringey and weird so I wasn't even surprised by that. Leia is a pushover so she's only going to do so much. Haim and Destiny had Tedros nervous
