In my very humble opinion or unsupported hunch is the West had to punish Russia for offering the world an alternative to capitalism.

I think it was easier for the Capitalism to forgive fascism than it was to forgive communism. Communism as an ideology was/is a threat to the Capitalist world order and the flag bearer had/has to be destroyed completely. China, The other major communist nation, was given a pass because they adopted a market based economy that wasn’t totally antithetical to capitalism.

Just my humble opinion.
the USSR was communist Russia is not.

Listened to a good podcast on this today. You have to start all the way back to the founding of Kievan Rus in the 9th century. Over the next 1000 years Ukraine(the term was only used in the past 150 years or so) that land has been ruled by a whole range of people(Polish, Russians, Lithuanians, Mongols, Cossacks, etc). They made a good point of explaining how Putin has tried to rewrite history concerning its founding.:wow:

‎The Rest Is History: 155. Ukraine and Russia on Apple Podcasts

EDIT: Putin truly believes in the 18th century line of thinking that Ukrainians are fundamentally Russians and shouldn't be their own sovereign nation. They even went far enough to ban the Ukrainian language from being taught back then. That went up until the Russian Revolution.

What gets me the sheer insanity of placing that line of thinking on today's reality. He believes he's a czar incarnate and needs to recreate the Russian Empire. :mindblown:

No he doesn't. Putin is not a communist. He is probably the richest person in the world, and the Soviet Republics were autonomous.

Putin don't want that. He wants to be Vladimir the Great or whatever they were calling their royalty.
Yes he does want to bring Russia back to it’s glory of the USSR why are you so difficult :what:

Because that’s not what he wants. He had a speech last week shytting on the USSR and saying there were mistakes made back then (1917). The Russian Empire isn’t the USSR. The USSR ended the Russian Empire.

To be fair, Peter and Catherine were pretty great with regards to Russian Czars. Vlad could never be on they level….:ehh:

He’s more Ivan the Terrible. Just a mean spirited tyrant slowly succumbing to mental instability and ruining Russia’s long term prospects.:francis:
I'm only speaking on what Putin thinks :whoa:

HE ain't tryna be General Secretary of the Communist Party
