I don’t think people would hate (maybe the tethers still would) if he was honest from the start about opening an event space. He probably would’ve still received a lot of donations anyway.
I knew something was up when he was so focused on getting a liquor license. Tariq claimed it was a museum, but was using it as a lounge. The city knew what Tariq was doing, that’s why they banned him from hosting events. He has to get the building coded as a lounge/bar to start hosting events, and he’s getting around that rule by hosting private RSVP events.
