The signs of a pseudo-political, religious conflict between the two are there. It's holding them back to a certain extent, but I'm predicting that, given time, religion will set them back in a more devastating way.

While I'm an atheist(in the sense that I don't believe or subscribe to any religion), I don't feel that whether a person is religious or not is a matter pertaining to intelligence. Throughout the millenia people of extraordinary intelligence have taken religion seriously.

To consider myself mentally superior to the likes of Balthasar Gracian, Francis Bacon, St. Augustine, Aquinas or Isaac Newton(to name a few) just because I don't subscribe to any religion... well, that takes an amount of arrogance that I'm just not capable of summoning.

Religion is used as a smokescreen for the consolidation of land, the means of production *People* and resources into the hands of a few. If its not religion they'll just go in there and say *this is mine, and so are your women and children*. Its not religion so much as tools men use, for power.

Many discoveries that you take for granted were founded by religious men. You're really need to better understand the difference between good people and demonic filth, friend.
