After Shaq was traded, the Lakers didn't start contending for ships, again, until they got the Spaniard. They wouldn't have appeared in those Finals, let alone win, without Pau.
For the most part I agree with this........there is ONE thing though....
The Lakers had one of the best records in the league that year BEFORE the Pau Gasol trade.
People tend to both not give Pau enough credit and give him too much credit.

Duncan was the best player on that team, but that's not what Finals MVP is about. It's about who performs best during that particular series, and that year it was hands down Tony Parker.
He sucked in both finals. But no one talks about it.

The nerve of anyone to act like these Laker championship teams weren't super talented beyond their superstars.
And I could probably argue that Pau is an all-time great big men. It's not too much of a reach. Shiiiiiet, for the modern big man, he's a damn near gawd. Stop frontin.
And Bynum was having a breakout year during that 30-16 start. Point blank, Kobe has done no more with the talent around him than any other great player.
oh ok. i get your point. but shaq is different even in what you're talking about. its dwight needs the attention because he likes to be the center of attention. some people are like that just caues. his family life wasnt terrible coming up.
SHaq on the other hand wants to be everyone's friend when he meets them if not he hates them. thats because his pops rolled out on him and when his mom hooked up with the army pops. they moved around alot. he was an armed forces kid. meaning you have to make friends quick then do it all over again everytime you move. that bother kids. then throw in the fact that he was a big giant black man. he had to figure out ways to be liked. so once he figured it out he kept that going into his adult life. but he couldnt understand why a guy like, say KOBE> wasnt fawning over him. he couldnt believe dwight wouldnt run up on him begging to be his little brother since his rookie year.
shaq always feels in those instances that someone has slighted him.

Zero. Being a Laker helped him out greatly. Just like being a Laker helped Kobe out greatly. Why do you think Dwight wanted to be traded to LA? Why did Steve Nash choose LA? Why did Shaq choose LA? Why did the Mailman and the Glove go to LA in the twilight of their careers? Last question, if Kobe would've been stuck on the Hornets, you think he still has the same kind of career?
