Question for the parents or aunts/uncles.

What's some things out here for kids to do? I have a 13 and 5 yr old. I know about the zoo/aquarium/coca cola world and six flags already. Just want to go out and explore and let them get a feel of their new environment.

When the weather’s nice take them to Piedmont Park for a picnic and play day. They have a playground over there too. Buy some skates, skateboard, or rent some bikes and take a stroll down the beltline entrance off of 10th and Monroe. Down the beltline there’s a cool skatepark and another little park too. All of these places are nice to people watch in general.

sky zone (or any other trampoline park) pin strikes, stars and strikes, kids museum, civil rights museum, if your 13 year old is a boy y’all should hit up the College Football Hall of Fame, lego land, MLK historical site, fernbank, botanical gardens, Chattahoochee nature center, Ponce city market..

Piedmont is def on my list. I've been looking to join one of the workout groups that meet there. The bike rental sounds like a great idea as well. Thanks.

Thanks! My son is actually turning 13 on Monday and I already had plans to take him to the roof top park at Ponce! Definitely looking into the rest of your suggestions. Appreciate it.

no problem..those museums will definitely help them understand the new environment. I’d also add the Alonzo Herndon museum near the AUC. He was Atlanta’s first black millionaire in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

places like that show people just how long we’ve had black excellence in Atlanta and you can do anything you want with hard work.

Based on their ages you're going to be limited, unfortunately. To start with, try the Center for Puppetry Arts and the Children's Museum of Atlanta.

stonecrest target is being converted into ...... Something else

New Black Wall Street Market in DeKalb County aims to boost Black, minority businesses

Stonecrest leaders have promised to make the city a hotbed for business, with mixed results since the city’s inception in 2017. With past falters in the rear-view mirror, an ambitious project is on the horizon.

Philanthropist and businessman Lecester “Bill” Allen said a redeveloped Target near Stonecrest Mall, dubbed the New Black Wall Street Market, is slated for a soft opening in May. The project, which aims to eventually feature more than 100 businesses, looks to imitate the development model that has made Ponce City Market and Krog Street Market successful, but with a focus on minority-owned businesses.

“This is something that’s been needed for a long time,” Clarence Boone, Stonecrest’s economic development director, said. “We feel like this will be a gamechanger for the city as it relates to commerce for Stonecrest.”

The new shopping location is acres away from the planned Atlanta Sports City project, which failed in 2019. Pitched as a destination offering dozens of sports fields, shops and restaurants, lawsuits against the project’s developers brought by businesspeople and organizations who invested money but never got to open are still working their way through the courts.

The city is now banking on Allen and his track record for success in south DeKalb to restore confidence among business owners.

“Projects don’t fail. People fail,” DeKalb Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson said. “So I trust that the proper people are in place in order to ensure the success of this project.”

I be conflicted about going there. It’s a good workout and the milfs be out there in workout tights :shaq:

but at the same time I don’t wanna keep giving money to a park honoring confederate generals and presidents

The park is free to enter. There are a bunch of free places to park right outside the park.

nah I used to go so often that I just got a membership, and I didn’t trust leaving my car at that bank parking lot when it’s not in park property or not in sight distance..

I used to work at Stone Mountain Elementary right near the entrance but didn’t wanna park their either cause them nikkas who stay in them townhomes across the street from the school used to break in the building and steal computers & shyt, so ain’t no telling what they’ll do to a car parked there at night with nobody around
