ORIGINAL STORY: Authorities are holding all lanes of the Buford Spring Connector while they respond to a fire under the I-85 bridge.
White smoke was seen pouring from beneath the interstate, according to footage from NewsChopper 2. Drivers on nearby I-85 appear to be slowing down through the area, but no lanes are blocked on the interstate.
Northbound traffic is being diverted off the connector at Piedmont Road. All lanes are expected to remain shut down until the fire is extinguished, Atlanta fire Capt. Cortez Stafford told AJC.com.
“We’re putting out the fire under the bridge,” he said. “We can’t have people driving over our hose lines.”
While it appears that vegetation caught fire, Stafford said investigators won’t know for sure until the blaze is out.
Another fire in the same area Friday sent smoke over I-85. That fire was caused by “outside burning,” according to officials.

Debris from a “homeless encampment” was found in the area after the fire was extinguished, Stafford said at the time. It did not compromise the interstate bridge.
We’re working to learn more about the latest fire.
