I figured out what the ending was gonna be pretty early in the film.

When Gordo was asking the wife about the baby room and heard about their complications.

Still thought the movie was really well done and the closing scenes were great.

THAT is how you do an ambiguous ending.

I watched this movie and in the beginning I was like look at this cac bullshyt. :beli:

This movie was filled with caccery, but I guess that was the point.

Ol'boy from from Warrior directed and wrote and acted in this? :wtf:

Very talented. :ehh:

I guess I have to add my two cents

I don't think he impregnated/raped the wife, I think he wanted to hurt Jason Bateman's character so much, and that moment when he was lying the hallway unsure if it was his child was enough for him. He basically ruined Bateman's character's life though. His wife knows about his past and hates him for it and will divorce him. He doesn't have a job anymore. Even if he asks ol'girl for a paternity test, she is going to be pissed and ask why?

Also live in a multimillion dollar house but don't have a security system and/ or motion sensors brehs. :francis:

Great movie, highly recommend it.

about the ending

I think he got her pregnant, just because the director was trying to make you fell like bullying is the worst thing ever, even worse than rape IMO.. I was repulsed at the movie for allowing him to get away with that, I was cool with the stalking, the lies or even if he would have consensually fukked his wife. but the rape shyt to me was too far, it made me feel compassion for Bateman and think to myself that he wasn't that bad.
I think you completely misinterpreted the film.

I would go as far as saying he definitely didn't rape her -- it would conflict with who he was as a character and the story -- it was opaque simply for the effect of putting us in Simon's shoes/mental state. Gordo wasn't raped, Simon lied to make it seem so - this is mirrored by Gordo's modus operandi towards Simon in the third act. I don't think Edgerton was trying to make the audience feel like bullying was the acme of human degradation, at all. It was a simple case of, as by Gordo's mantra "an eye for an eye" - just like Simon's lie ruined his life, he wanted the same for him - whose demise could be argued as being self-inflicted through being a pathological liar.

It was a lose/lose situation for Simon - does he ask for a paternity test, knowing full well that if the baby turned out to be his, the circumstantial evidence could place doubt in his wife's mind as to who the guilty party might be [one behind the mask] - meaning whatever chance he previously had at saving his marriage would now be beyond rectifiable. Or does he live the rest of his life without knowing if he's the father or not?

Wild ass final 20 minutes, but all of the set-up....and even the payoff....felt like a lot of movies I've seen before.

Well made, well acted, good flick...just never really grabbed me.
I think the trailer ruined it for me - I was expecting something far more sinister than what actually unfolded. The main problem I had with the film was Edgerton's character wasn't fleshed out enough for the audience to empathize with his situation - failing to create plausibility behind his actions. The only insight into how this impacted his life [the hurt and vulnerability] was through him hosting a trivia night at a dive, and even that centered around Bateman's character. The brief mentions of him joining the military, lying about the dinner party, the house, his job, talking in cliches and his overall demeanor all seemed rather empty.

I think this analysis is sot on. I just finished the flick.

Gordo didn't rape her, IMO at least. It didn't seem to vibe with his character at all. But like he said, "A liar won't believe anybody else, right? See what happens when you poison other people's minds with ideas?"

He used Simon's bullying and lying tendencies against him and he knows that Simon will be destroyed no matter what. He knows he didn't need to do it to make Simon think about forever.

I do wish Gordo's character had got a bit more screen time and more fleshing out, but unexpectedly good movie. I finally had to watch it.

I liked the movie, it was pretty dope and Jason Bateman surprised me with his depiction of a snake. Rebeca Hall was good, could've been a bit better but she got murked by Joel and Jason without a doubt.

Overall the movie was pretty good, the ambiguity wasn't delivered as dope as in "Gone Girl"s but it was well delivered.
