I think this is a great discussion film but just a good movie. There are a lot things on morality that can be discussed, moral dileminas (sp?), etc. I think Jason Bateman did his thing in here. I don't follow Jason Bateman career like that. And when I see him, all I think of are comedies. But he was perfect for the role. His wife in this film is horrible. A pretty much 1 dimensional character, naive, monotone character. The antogonist Gordo, whom you see in the trailers, does a good job too.

Now, did I figure out the twists? No, but after they were revealed, I wasn't really wow'ed.
There is no murder, deaths in this film. So if you're looking for this Gordo dude to be some super deranged, you'll be disappointed. Deranged as in a murderer. He's sick though
There were several times, I was checking my phone. Because Jason Bate. and his wife chemistry sucked. I don't have a problem with the ending. It's good for discussion.
though I do think it's Jason's not Gordo's

Spoiler about the ending

Now if he did do it. Then that's one heck of a last gift. That changes the whole new meaning of the title of the film. Either way Bill Cosby is like :mjcry:

Great movie What goes around comes around.

My one gripe with the movie
Now I agree with that statement to a certain extent. My problem was that Gordo guy was so much more unlikable to me.. The fact that he may have gotten away with stalking and rape just cause was bullied doesn't sit well with me.. 95% of Hollywood movies the bad guy gets caught or gets what's owed to him but this piece of shyt getting away annoys me, I felt the same way after souvivor. I don't always need a happy ending but come on. The anti bullying agenda was corny to me.
otherwise great film, his wife was the worst though she did nothing to prevent this shyt from happening.

Loved it. Amazing direction, acting and writing. I thought all three leads were incredible, Bateman's narcissistic, social climbing charmer was brilliant. Joel Edgerton as Gordo was un nerving, creepy, menacing and childishly innocent in the same scene...He did a great job as a director creating relentless tension, this movie was just straight uncomfortable to watch, the way he played on all the tropes of yuppies under menace thrillers from late 80's and early 90's was great.

The setting, the glass house representing all of the capitalistic suburban ambitions of Simon, and the upper middle class in America. Loved Hall's slow decline and her take on the menaced, increasingly fragile and unstable housewife from movies like 'Dial M For Murder', 'Midnight Lace', 'Gaslight'.

The movie earns all it's scares with great direction, and a knowing nod to the movies that have come before, 'Fatal Attraction', Pacific Heights', 'Unlawful Entry', etc

The upscale, yuppie friends & dinners and the movies critique and analysis cruel 'frat boy' element of the corporate world was excellently done, and the values we attach to it, the contrast of Gordo's world, a bleak, dreary trivia night in a dive bar was just brutal. The ending was twisted and raw, stomach churning. The script pulls no punches and by the end you are repulsed at the movie, but at yourself for maybe not knowing exactly how to feel. One of my top of this year, a modern Hitchcock almost.

as for the question, I'd have to say I am leaning towards no, but it almost doesn't matter. it's a very nihilistic and dark ending, were everyone is a victim and no one gets a happy ending...the fukking awful things we do to each other in the name of business, revenge, or just inherent human evil.

about the ending

I think he got her pregnant, just because the director was trying to make you fell like bullying is the worst thing ever, even worse than rape IMO.. I was repulsed at the movie for allowing him to get away with that, I was cool with the stalking, the lies or even if he would have consensually fukked his wife. but the rape shyt to me was too far, it made me feel compassion for Bateman and think to myself that he wasn't that bad.

Cornfields, cows, & an one stoplight town
This movie was refreshing in that the dialogue and characters felt real. They weren't over the top, and everything was sorta gray. I think the ending was perfectly fukked up. Bateman surprised me with his depth, dude can really act. I think the director and writer should get props for taking a concept that could have been cliche and making it very fresh and thought provoking.

Two thumbs up.

Wild ass final 20 minutes, but all of the set-up....and even the payoff....felt like a lot of movies I've seen before.

Well made, well acted, good flick...just never really grabbed me.

They weren't pointless, the opening half of the film was trying to make you think the ending would be your generic "crazy guy does house invasion" shyt when it was nothing but.
