Damn this season been a let down. At least Arrow had a bounce back season with it's 5th one. Flash still hasn't come close to it's 1st season.

I'm guessing next season the major villain might be Godspeed or Daniel West.

If it's Godspeed i can see them going the vigilante angle and he actually kills the bad guys, which gains him favor from the city over Flash. Kind of like Superman/The Elite.

I'm not really feeling the way they've been writing DeVoe the last fourth of the season.

At first he was nuanced and had interesting motives, but as the season went on they just started writing him as a generic a$$hole who likes to kill people for no reason and abuse his wife.

Do y'all watch the show? I see this criticism over and over and I'm halfway convinced that people use it to hate on Iris just because it's cool.

In the beginning parts of Season 4, it was confirmed that she quit her job. Barry was in the Speedforce for 6 months during that time, Caitlin abandoned the team, and Cisco and Wells weren't vibing in order to protect the city. Iris took it upon herself to work with the two former and Wally to keep ish in order. Second, why wouldn't she learn certain aspects of "science" if she's helping the team? Two, Caitlin and Cisco were always playing second fiddle to Barry. That's not on Iris. Cisco IS tech support be it helping CCPD or making gadgets for Barry. Caitlin was initially touted as a bio-engineer and at some point, the writers said "fukk it" and now she's a doctor so but all those "protein gels", etc. that she was doing in Season 1 and 2, Barry should know how to do. If you watched her speedster episode, it's obvious that the team prefers her to Barry when it comes to leadership or organization ( Barry stays talking to Cisco recklessly-Iris is the one that checks him on it).

Nah. Iris is just one entry on the long list of why this season is lame, but she is a microcosm of everything wrong with this show now.

The issue with Iris now is that she's written in a way that makes you think that during the planning stages of this season somebody had "MAKE IRIS A THING" written on a chalkboard with a bunch of underlines underneath. Every episode they try to shoehorn her into some screentime in only the most obvious and convoluted ways, like that time she dragged barry to marriage conseling the day after he got out the speedforce....before they were even married. :gucci: Regardless of how stupid it is they toss iris into situations yet nobody in charge of this show has realized that they have developed 0% of her character.

Every facet of iris's character revolves around barry. season 1 she blogs about him, season 2 got a reporting job only reporting about him, season 3 she's dedicated to him entirely and season 4 she quits all adult work to be the guy who looks at the computer screen and says "Run barry......run" when he's fighting a villain. No character arc, no growth, no nothing, they just have her do random shyt every episode while trying to convince the audience she's an essential member of team flash.

This was best exemplified on the Girl's Night episode. These hacks write iris an episode about iris's bachlorette party and forgot to actually write her in some friends, some other family or any semblance of a life. So when she selects bridesmaids she's stuck with

-A character she's only met last season and interacted with a couple times (Caitlyn)
- Her dads new girlfriend.....introduced just this season :snoop:
and last but not least....a character from an entirely different show that she's never even spoke to (felicity)

It's laughably bad especially considering we're 3 versions of Harrison Wells deep and all of them aren't just better characters but they all have completed character arcs and development.

It's sad because Candice Patton really put her foot into this role. It's not like they gave her a ton to work with but she's been acting her ass off playing this role. The way her eyes are lit up during one of her usual wifely devotion speeches is :wow: It's a shame this show is in the hands of such shytty writers

I get the overall point you’re making but Iris has known all of those characters since season 1.:mjlol:

Iris met both Caitlyn and Felicity in season one, although you’re right, they weren’t exactly good friends or anything. :manny:

Cecile was introduced towards the end of the first season, she just didn’t start dating Joe until season 3.

Still, it’s true the writers don’t really know what to do with Iris outside of her interactions with Barry.

Eh, I can agree with this.

My point still stands, Iris is NOT a bad character. The writing for her is shyt, but she's not an inherently bad character. It's funny cause no one says anything about how utterly useless Killer Frost has been this season. Pre-losing KF, she did nothing but get hemmed up every time she stepped on screen. I hate it. A lot of the screen time used on this KF mess, could've been written as a more evolved arc for Iris. For ex, last night we got some characterization of CS/KF. WTF? Why didn't they do this eons ago? Where is this story going? We've seen Cisco's interactions with his brother, Caitlin's past, yet we never saw how she dealt with her mom's death-not really. There are A LOT of characters besides Iris that detract from the show, KF being the main one (who honestly shouldn't even be in The Flash, but whatever). Besides Iris, we could've used a lot of this supposed KF arc on Wally or introducing Linda again. I seriously despise the writers.

-----

As far as the episode? It was one of the better ones of this season, but still meh. I REALLY enjoyed Devoe's introduction, but he's highly a trash villain. I'm not convinced regarding his motivations and it's honestly really stupid. It feels like nothing has been resolved-part 1 feels completely disconnected from part 2 and I don't feel like Team Flash deserves a win because of complete and utter stupidty this season. Maybe it'll get better in Season 5?

To be honest I prefer Season 3 to this Season, but in all honestly I think Season 3 is kind of underrated.

No matter how many people hate to admit it, that "Who is Savitar?" shyt had everybody on the edge of their seat. I kind of miss having a masked villain and trying to figure out who they are.

The thing with DeVoe is that it just doesn't feel personal. With Thawne it was personal because he killed Barry's mom. With Zoom, it was personal because of how Zoom tricked all of them with the whole "Jay Garrick" thing/kidnapped Jesse/killed Barry's dad. With Savitar, it was personal because he was going to kill Iris and because of who he ended up being. DeVoe comes off as just some random guy who wants to take over the world, and otherwise has nothing to do with the main cast.

This last episode was dope overall. The Harry and iris scenes were pretty dope, and she showed some actual anger in them. Cecile as the pizza guy was lol.
