For the first MCU X-men, I would use sentinels as the villains and loosely base the storyline off of Giant Sized X-men #1.

Have Professor X and Cyclops recruit and train up a new team of mutants (Storm, Colossus, Nightcrawer, and Wolverine) to track down the OG’s who went missing.

Switch out Banshee, Sunfire, and Thunderbird to make way for more popular characters (Rogue, Psylocke, Gambit). Keep Wolverine’s screen time limited. We shouldn’t see Logan really going off until the end of the movie, like how they did Vader in Rogue One.

Tease Magneto for the sequel.

Need proper sentinels for once...and you could tie it in pretty easily. Government finds out about mutants, hires trask to build robots to hunt them, more mutants found X Men begin.

They better use the OG 5
X, Cyclops, Jean, Angle, Iceman, Beast, and Mimic(ok maybe not mimic)

Down the road when they do decide to incorporate X-Men I doubt they'd use a villain we've seen before. I only say that because of how they handled Homecoming after getting Spider-Man back.
