How in the fukk is Scream underrated? It's almost universally praised as the best slasher flick of it's time.

I don't know if I'd say it was "scary" though.....
its supposed to be a spoof or whatever, its not scary but its damn entertaining. The opening to scream 2 with it starting off with a couple watching the movie premiere of Stab was a dope concept not as shocking as watching the first with the Hollywood actress with her face all over the movie posters getting killed in the opening scene. The third movie was great as well, the 4th not so much except that funny ass beginning they brought back that was missing in 3.

This

shyt is considered THEE slasher flick, no way its underrated :what:

I don't think it's "THEE slasher flick" but it's definitely the best of the late 90's early 2000's.

Most still consider the OG Halloween as the best slasher flick ever made. Then you got to take into account some of those Friday the 13th joints the OG Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Scream was good, but I remember that it wasn't a big movie when it first dropped. They actually re-released it in theaters and then everybody ended up seeing it. The first Scream is the only one worth watching.

That had more to do with when the movie was released and what other movies were out at the time.

Scream came out the same week as "Beavis and Butthead do America", a week after Jerry Maguire, and the live action 101 Dalmatians film was out around that time also.

So you had a rated R slasher film going up against two highly anticipated PG-13 films based on established properties and a movie starring the biggest movie star in the world (at the time). It was also released in late December which a time when families are looking to hit up theaters more. Even with all that said the movie did very well financially.

So the re-release of the film was more about making up for the mistake of originally releasing it during a weak with such stiff competition.

I LIVE IN A CARDBOARD BOX!
Scream came out at the end if 96, I do believe. It ended up being the 13th highest grossing film of the year which isn't bad for a movie that didn't open at number one. Everyone from my generation has seen it. I was Ghostface for Halloween in the seventh grade. I loved that first one. I can't really say much bad about it. The marketing was brilliant by having Drew Barrymore on the poster and doing press interviews and she gets offed within the first 10 minutes. BTW, that opening scene had me like :damn:. Two was pretty good too. 3? :trash: I liked 4 much better than the third one. I need to get all of my horror movies out. I'm just not in much of a Halloween spirited mood due to being unemployed this year.

How is it underrated when it made lots of money, spawned sequels and spoofs, and was critically acclaimed ? Maybe like someone else said, you're too young to remember when it came out, but this movie was huge when it came out. For the next couple of Halloweens everyone had a scream mask.

I think he means it's overlooked when talking about all time great horror movies.
