The fact the turtles weren't allowed to use their weapons because of parents complaining is :hhh:

You're right. I think that also adds to the greatness of the OG movie. It had balanced a dark teen comic property with the light hearted colorfulness of the Fred Wolf cartoon and pleased just about everyone. It's never been duplicated. Really didn't get the outcry tho since children were still exposed to seeing the turtles with their weapons on the show and in the games. Guess being live action made it worse somehow.

I know what it is. It’s just such a step down in every way from the first. That’s my issue. Like a huge step down. The script, the stunts, the costumes, everything. As a kid I loved it but I watched it in high school and the shine wore off lol

That's understandable. It's something special bout the Turtles tho that no matter how bad they appear or how old we get (possibly), we always seem to at least give it a chance.

Frankly, 6 movies in I still don't understand the concept of these threads.

:yeshrug:

Think of a movie you love that you feel should be remembered forever as one of the greatest movies of all time. nominate it, people vote on it and if they agree with you, it becomes Film Room legend. If they don't, then it doesn't

Opinions and all that but The Toxic Avenger was two votes from becoming a Film Room legend. After that it kinda feels like mowing the lawn after paving it.

I understand that homie but that's not the point. If the people decide it then it is what it is. We can quibble with the choices all we want and be snobbish about it but bottom line, if the people decide its in, then its in. That's that:russ:

I mean, there's really no other way to put it. Also, it didn't get in. So even if it was two votes away, it still didn't happen. Therefore, we move on and go to the next one.

okay question for everyone so this doesn't just turn into a thread where we quote the movie:

Why? Why does this go in? And I'm asking for reasons other than "my childhood..."
Not even gonna lie to you, nostalgia definitely still plays a part for me. But I do genuinely feel this movie is THE TMNT movie that can attract people of all ages due to it's ability to balance comedy and grit. The sequels lost that balance and suffered for it.

Watching

"I am proud of you, my sons. Tonight you have learned the final and greatest truth of the Ninja: that ultimate mastering comes not of the body, but from the mind. Together, there is nothing your four minds cannot accomplish. Help each other, draw upon one another, and always remember the power that binds you. The same is what brought me here tonight, that which I gladly return with my final words: I love you all, my sons."
