When it comes to Bryan I have the feeling his source is D-Bry himself. If you go back, most of the shyt Dave was saying about Bryan 3-4 years ago was exactly what DB later revealed in his book.
It's kinda similar to when Meltzer talks about Flair or Heyman, they are his main sources
