Smart guy is definitely underrated.

Outside of kenan and kel, Mo and Marcus was the best duo on 90s television.

I think the show didn't get the opportunity to really crossover.:francis:

Family matters was a corny show.:camby:

Wayan bros is underrated as well. The show was getting better every season.

Everybody hate Chris is legit up there with martin and Fresh prince of bel air.:manny:

any black show that sees its viewers boost off catering outside of its demographic is gonna end up corny. fresh prince is one of the only ones i can say that stayed very true to its roots. and i mainly think that's off the episodes they made. compare the demographics of those that really fukk with that las vegas (dance episode) vs the ones that really fukk with the episode where will's father comes into his life for a minute just to leave again.

they balanced their shyt extremely well and don't get enough recognition off it.

yeah its a tough debate on what was better with FP vs Martin but FP def had the bigger impact on America, while Martin had the bigger or just as big impact amongst Blacks.

The Varnell Hill Martin Episodes is some of the best TV ever

I think FP definitely did, but martin seems to be one of those shows that will be forever culturally relevant. even if it's just in rap music or something. martin, unlike the majority of black shows, hasn't been forgotten and is still appreciated.

here's hoping my nikka martin lawrence bounces back into a fruitful career. bad boys 3 better be worth the wait.

Martin stayed true to itself as well. The show never really had social commentary tho.

I don't think it was that type of show. It was just outrageous comedy. Martin is like the epitome of black comedy.

I think Martin was a funnier show, but Fresh prince of bel air was the better show.

to an extent, but he also revolved around shyt that was meant for minorities. when you have a show designed around you adopting kids from a drug addicted mother, you gotta hit kinda close to home, but on rewatches, i see some things i just don't fukk with being put out like it's a normal thing like a lot of people would assume when watching.

not to undermine him, because the show was very open minded on some issues but we still got some shyt to overcome that black media is slowly trying to conquer. like empire and the one gay singer. watch that around fam and see how they react. you gonna hear some uncomfortable shyt. but it's all good. something we working on. i'm just glad to see us slowly showing our worth in media.

that was my issue with everybody hates chris and how you see some nikkas praising julius. i understand how that resonates, but let's not act like their ain't fathers and mothers working hard as fukk just so their children can stunt. yk? so their children can have a somewhat better sense of self-worth than their parents, even if it's materialistic. for every hard working parent out there making sure they ain't running up bills, there's numerous letting them and working hard so they can so they don't go through the same shyt they did and you rarely see that on tv.
Black people can never advance with the weight of all 40 million of us on their shoulders.

It's not Mac's fault they only let one nikkas through at a time.

It cannot always be about what white people might see or misunderstand. They fought for certain things not to be apart of the show. For example; Fox wanted Wanda to be a mammy and Larry Wilmore (who was the writer) said no, she's a real person.

Black people got to be able to eat their watermelon and chicken outside SOMETIMES. As in; we've got to stop being afraid of the bullshyt they put on some of us, embarass us. I've got ghetto family and they happen to be intelligent and some of them are fools and I got bougy fam.

It's not about being a c00n and soft-shoeing. I hated how Fresh Prince went away from really pressing the messages of the first few season to a lot of buffonery mixed with a message in the later episodes. Hell, looking back WIllard Smith was a cornball tryna act hard because he happened to be born in the rough neighborhood  <<< Carlton (as a man who stuck to be himself).

Enough of that.

But, Bernie was telling his story and didn't "clean it up" for white people. Every black show can't be every thing to everyone.

Which is why we need 'em on major networks and need 'em headed by black folks on the smaller platforms (ie YouTube webseries)

which makes it all the better. black creators would have one hell of a time if they felt like they couldn't create shyt if it didn't touch on things happening around its forming. shows live or die by its comedy and how well it stands up; it being relevant or not, and martin is still brought up just off of gags and jokes. that's one of the best things we can hope for when we create shyt. a good show is a good show regardless of when it was filmed. nikkas are still watching 40+ year old comedies with mel brooks and laughing at jokes that have been deconstructed, twisted and turned into the butt of other jokes.

regardless of show quality, if martin can be appreciated 10/15+ years after its airing, then it's a good show. fresh prince may get more love become its more accessible but aye.

also a lil tidbit. remember when donald glover did that campaign to be the black spider-man in movies and they settled with miles morales in the comics? then donald glover got casted in star wars? let's wait to see how it takes for them to switch spider-man out with donald glover or another black actor, lol.

they're not casting all these big black actors in black panther for nothing.

People really got the Jamie foxx show over the wayan bros????

Outside of Jamie foxx, I always thought the supporting cast was weak.

Wayan bros had pops, TC, Dupree, Dee, and white mike.

Wayans didnt get Legit good until Season 3 and later. Season 1 was not that memorable and Season 2 had flashes.
