I think they just tried doing too much and jumped the shark. It was obvious him and Laura were gonna end up together but they just dragged things too long and started coming up with ideas that were unnecessary. Plus the character change for Harriet didn't help. It usually never does.

The last 2 seasons of Family Matters was just OD goofy where it was cheesy as hell. Smart guy was short lived for tv standards so it didnt have a culture impact it was simply a show we remember mean while other shows like Fresh Prince, anytime that Apache song comes on people do the Will and Carlton dance, that is cultural impact right there.

it's a great show. that concept is dope as fukk. let that lil' smart nikka stunt. still fukk with that jamie foxx's show and the wayans' bros show. weird to see the wayans' go from a show that tackled racial quotas at high position jobs to scary movie and all this parody shyt.

idk if bet has syndication rights for fresh prince but they needa have some shyt like nick @ nite with that, smart guy, etc. or even do it around noon.

My Wife and Kids should be the iconic Black Entertainment show
The first three seasons of MWAK were amazing. Some of the best television ever, but after about the third season things went downhill, imo. My biggest issue with the show was Jr. who basically became functionally retarded after the third season. Also, that running "eh no" gag got annoying. I also hated Franklin--the mulatto piano genius kid.

Anyway, Smart Guy was a good show. I remember watching it on Disney. I definitely would NOT call it iconic though. Just a good show tucked into the back of my memory.
