They're both good, though I much prefer GBG. I think Sean Penn's overacting ass takes a lot away from Mystic River.

:what:

Im halfway thru it as I type. I thought the same thing about that scene

If you like Mystic River or Gone Baby Gone.....then see this immediately. It was written by the same guy and definitely FEELS like those movies. And the performances are pretty special, Hardy in particular. He's doing something you've definitely never seen from him.
movie looks real good, and i will definitely see it

but on a scale of 1-10, how depressing is it? is gandolfini's character really pathetic?

Not really. His life is pathetic, but the movie doesn't play it up or focus on it.

I liked it although I thought it was a bit too predictable. Tom Hardy is great as the seemingly slow-witted barkeep, might just be the best performance I've seen all year. Gandolfini delivered a typical performance of his, good but not really that special. I liked how it's essentially a crime film that has little to no violence in it, and what little there is, is perfectly presented as something these guys have so gotten used to it that their reactions are comically wry.

I thought the movie was alright. Tom Hardy did his thing. I couldn't get with the leading girl though. Her looks and everything were wack to me
