Download the Audio book from Audible and just use the physical to cross ref/highlight stuff.
oh nah, i read breh-breh, audio books make me fall asleep. so that's why i asked, i wanna know if i gotta have a good meal in me before reading it cause it can't be a passive read to absorb and fully understand the info like in the new jim crow.

It's just at times he uses a lot of thesaurus words. I mean ALOT. If you're a graduate student you can probably glide through the book, that seems to be who he engages with mostly on twitter anyway
ohhh i see. thanks, okay so yeah like the new jim crow.

His point about Jewish Men during The Holocaust not having male privilege was excellent. How can you say Black Men have male privilege? The whole Black Men are the White Men of Black people is a disgusting, disingenious point if you really think about it. It shows a cognitive dissonance, we are simultaneously oppressors yet dusty, lazy and conquered.
I fukk with with a lot of what he was saying, but I couldn’t get the sense of if he was saying (black) male privilege is blown out of proportion….or simply saying it doesn’t exist because of racial dynamics.

Honestly either to me would be disingenuous (considering buddy seems to be super logical) but I can somewhat get the disproportionality aspect of it.

To your bolded, I think there are plenty of (obvious) examples within America against what you’re saying (housing being an example….yes, black men (black people in general) were discriminated against in housing, but you can say black women more so due to them not being allowed to even buy a house without a male until what the 1970s?). You can also look at black communities outside of America which have been or are being effected by white racism/supremacy/colonialism, whatever term you wanna use…that there is clear male privilege for black males that themselves are oppressed or being undermined. (As an example girls not having the same access to childhood education as boys in certain countries)

The two things aren’t mutually exclusive, I feel like the Black Panthers/Newton/Hammond highlighted this in the context of the oppressed sometimes picking up the mantles of the oppressor because that is what they know.

And since he used an outside group (Jews), middle eastern Muslims are yet another example where both things can be true…European whites either interfere, oppress, use propaganda against primarily middle eastern men. And those same men sometimes oppress the women of their same ilk OR don’t oppress but have access to opportunities that their women do not have.

Even if black males aren’t the cause for ‘privilege’ it can still exist.

That was weird. I hate how the black manosphere is framed, like y'all not allowed to advocate for yourselves.

Right or wrong, yall should be 'allowed' to work these things our amongst yourselves with no interference, like bw.
at the risk of this thread devolving I have chosen to not respond. The person doesn't understand the crux of the argument being made is that black folks as a whole have LOST a greeat deal of economic power due to feminism being introduced as a way to curb progress for blacks. god bless the soul of that person may they find understanding in this troubled world.

For context- Timestapped for your edification.

Next time you should actually @ me, but that would be of little consideration seeing as how you can’t grasp a simple suggestion.

The black manosphere isn’t about the advancement of the black community in any way tangible nor does it conduct it’s conclusion and reasoning in a manner that isn’t reliant on anti-black tropes at the expense of us at large. No black man who is actually serious is waiting on MF’s to advocate for or help their fellow man is needing the “help” on a podcaster or Youtuber to get them to do a damn thing. Next to black church the MAIN people doing the work in my experience and day to day are black men. Period.

This facile understanding of self advocacy is, in part, why bm continue to suffer from its lack. If all bm do is keep your nose to the grindstone, you will never understand or meaningfully address the barriers to group progress. The black church used to do this effectively, but has since been coopted. Who's left to do it if you dont? You want bw speaking on your behalf?

The black manosphere consists of bm from all walks of life. Drs Tommy Curry and T Hassan Johnson are valiantly attempting to lay the academic foundation for such. Other, less academically inclined men are gathering, sharing anecdotes, and groping their way toward understanding the full picture, a neccesary step since the bm of past generations apparently failed to pass down their understanding and whatever workarounds they took advantage of.

Its a little disgusting that i have to humanize your brothers to you. Dont be so dismissive. All truly organic movements are messy, but getting to the next step requires working through the messiness.

There’s a distinct difference between the works of T Hassan Johnson and Thomas Curry and the average MF on youtube, that was literally my main point. I’m not disparaging anyone to not do anything but giving my view point on people I once interacted with (neither was Hassan or Curry) and gauged my judgement from there. In fact I wouldn’t even link them in the same ball park in terms of the academia and work they produce, that would be of a disservice to them and what they do.

The door is blue because it’s painted blue, you over thought a whole sentence, let alone the strife we black men have to put up with. Now I’ll respectfully bow out and let this thread do the numbers it deserves.

There's also a distinct difference between the work of bell hooks and Angela Davis and the average (female) mf on youtube; that dont mean they cant all work together toward a shared goal of 'empowerment.'

My lol was directed at this old church mother shade, your point is deadly serious.

We love Irami in this house, despite his white wife/ patron.
