Denver still resents Melo for how he left. Even if he wore a different #, they would still try to find every reason not to honor him. Jokic turning out to be better just happened to be the perfect excuse.

With respect to Melo, Jokic is the better and more impactful player and it isn't even close. I think Melo definitely deserves some flowers, though.

?I think jersey retirements/ring of honors and stuff like that should be more about how the fans feel about a player. If the fans have a connection with Melo,and he is beloved in Denver,his jersey should be retired. But truth is,they are no longer a laughing stock or poverty franchise. So sadly fans dont cling to great players,or "good ol days" where they won nothing. Not once they actually start winning actual chips.

If Denver fans/the organization don't want his number retired, why the fukk should I care? Every team has different standards for jersey retirements. He's gonna be in the HOF and was on the Top 75 list. If he ain't all that important to Denver, so be it

I think they should retire Melo's #15 jersey using the old nuggets design, preferably this one below...
...and retire Jokic's number 15 when his time in the league comes to an end by using the jerseys used during he and Murray's Nugget era, preferably the white home jersey design.
Since the designs used in both eras represent a different time during the franchise's existence.
Melo did a lot for the Nuggets to not be honored in some kind of way, they can duel retire the numbers. I think they will retire Melo's jersey number BUT not before Jokic retires, I don't expect Denver to retire Melo's number this year, next year or even 2-3 years from now. If anything they'll wait and retire both at the same time rather than years apart.
