the death of superman storyline was a cultural touchstone but any event advertising the death of superman would have gotten the same attention. the story itself is a huge dud and the character hasn't recovered since.
doomsday in particular is like the dumbest, most least inspired villain there is.
No offense. But damn near everything you just said is wrong.
Doomsday was a commercial success and still plays an important role in Superman’s rogues gallery.
Cyborg Superman and the Eradicator are still major players in the DC universe. Cyborg Superman also played a role in one of the greatest Green Lantern arcs of all-time.
Arguably the greatest Superman story of all-time (All-Star Superman) was written more than a decade after DoS.
Some of the best Superman stories of the past 20 years have happened in the last 3 years. In fact, the direction of Superman in the comics has rarely ever been on surer ground with the reintroduction of Lois as a love interest and the introduction of his son.
Oh... and the most popular mainstream comics writer in the country is currently handling both of DC’s Superman titles. And the guy who brought us Night of the Owls is handling Justice League.
The only reason you could possibly try to make this argument is because of how bad the DCEU is. Which is fine. But to say the character hasn’t recovered is some lazy, message board bullshyt.
