I remember Wizard magazine put out a best villains special issue back in the '90s. Carnage made the cover.

I feel like Marvel has a million more villains, but they are mostly B, C and D-listers rooted in the corny '60s & '70s. Stuff like Dark Avengers/X-Men and Thunderbolts prove they can be enjoyable but still they aren't major players. I like Marvel, but I prefer DC characters overall, villain or hero.

Marvel has some great ones though: Bullseye, Apocalypse, Mister Sinister, Magneto, Green Goblin, Red Skull, Namor (if you want to count him as one... would love to see him go to war with the surface world again), Venom (well, he USED to be) and Doctor Doom.

Guess it was a Bendis thing. I'm going through the Initiative era of Marvel right now on Marvel Unlimited. All those thought bubbles he keeps writing on Mighty Avengers are annoying as hell. It's like that was the ONLY book he did it in.

well the ROCK is playing black adam in the Shazam! movie, so that alone makes him A-lister, period.

Is the standard we use, who the eff ra's al goul? who is Bane without googling it before TDKR? Who is every villian in every marvel movie ever, outside of goblin and magneto? it goes both ways fammo

Ra's was definitely obscure before BB, but Bane was known simply from breaking Batman back. If we going on who is recognizable then Doc Ock would def. be in the mix along with Venom. IMO Marvel has done a better job of pushing their characters into the mainstream with other media than DC has. If you have played video games in the last 20 years you know who Dr. Doom and Thanos are without even picking up their books. Hell we even knew who Mojo was due to that Genesis X-Men game.

And if you've watched a cartoon in the past 20 years breh you've seen Ra's, you've seen vandal savage, you've seen slade, you've seen Amanda Waller, who is perhaps THE villain of this whole shyt because she's the most thorough
