Ruffin with the architects of the Philly sound would've been incomprehensible. The world would never be ready for that type of fireHe should’ve worked with Gamble and Huff

That was mainly because Berry Gordy didn't want him to go solo, so he would only let the writers give Ruff their C material had he given David's career the same treatment he did for Diana Ross his solo work would be up there with the greats.Facts. Very underated performer and vocalist. You'd be surprised how many of your fav singers were Ruffin Stans. Should've stayed with the Tempts though. He fukked his career trajectory up. His solo work never really popped off. Meanwhile the Temps went on to conquer the 70s without him
To be honest, if I were Gordy I wouldn't have given him my top material either. I read Otis' book and he said Gordy was pissed at Davids behavior toward the end of his stint with the group (missing shows, showing up late, the drugs, etc) but he allowed the group to handle they own business with member issues. When they fired David, Berry was kinda reluctant working with him because he was so unpredictable. That was mainly because Berry Gordy didn't want him to go solo, so he would only let the writers give Ruff their C material had he given David's career the same treatment he did for Diana Ross his solo work would be up there with the greats.
Nah I wouldn't go that far. There were others before him. David was a smooth, classy showman but you had guys like James Brown and Jackie Wilson who were the epitome of dynamic stage presence. Especially James. He high key changed how black entertainers moved on stage.
Think James and Jackie were better dancers. David had better vocals...all 3 brehs owned the stageNah I wouldn't go that far. There were others before him.
