in all actuality, Darkseid is supposed to MURK Thanos. People that arent biased and aren't casual fans know this. You know it. I know. it Some other people here know it.
People are in here giving Thanos the same treatment we run folks off for giving to Batman. He wins cause he's thanos, prep time, etc
At the same time....
People DONT realize that the original Crisis ended mainly because Darkseid basically one shotted The Anti-monitor from an entire universe away with The Omega Effect (by channeling it through Alexander Luthor, who had no idea what happened), and only did so because Earth's heroes showed up and started pestering him.
The rest of the heroes really just mopped up an extremely weak Anti-Monitor afterwards, because Darkseid had all but killed him.
Dude was teleporting whole planets with the power of his mind and mentally controlling a billion pre-crisis Daxamites via telepathy, all which were PC Superman or better in power.
Hell, Darkseid was so powerful that The Crisis didn't effect him (or any of the new gods) at all. There actually is no such thing as "Pre-Crisis" darkseid.
All the while, he was casually creating folks like Mantis, Stayne, and Brimstone with a wave of his hand..... Bringing Mordru from the dead and raping him of all he was worth before killing him again in one or two pages. Folks who I can really argue are/were at least Thanos level.
Hell, FINAL CRISIS happened because Darkseid was dying. Dude was fukking up reality by merely existing in it. AND HE WAS DYING.
THE PROBLEM: Thanks to DC, none of the above matters. They'd much rather show Darkseid being punched in the face, when dude is really supposed to be Odin/Galactus level or better in power.
The Spectre wasn't allowed to kill Darkseid, because he was a fundamental part of the universe on an abstract level.
But Superman can beat him up.
Soooo.... Darkseid as he's supposed to be written would hit Thanos with the Omega Effect, wipe him from existence. he'd turn him into a statue or something. Darkseid as his portrayal in Final Crisis even would be the type of dude Thanos would take the prep-time route with like he did Tyrant.
Darkseid as they've made him? really, If he's Superman level, Thanos would mollywhop him.

Far as I know, it was really just Darkseid knew he was more powerful than him. Only thing that stopped Yuga Khan both times was whatever makes evil Old/New Gods go scrambling after the Source Wall.
