word? We should debate about this some time( :sas2:) or at least make an educational / informative thread on it ( :manny: )

:patrice: I know I feel some type of way about reconstruction, which eventually transformed into black codes....

WEB Du Bois vs Washington.....

Sometimes I feel like we have a lot of Washington fans on here ( :patrice: ) without naming names....
Yea which is sad because Washington's Atlanta Compromise speech was one of the worst parts of Jim Crow Apartheid for many reasons...plus I just finished a book by Andrew Zimmerman about Booker T. and how he facilitated a German capitalist project in Africa that exploited thousands of cotton workers...if these so called Booker T. fans actually read what Booker T. wrote and said instead of public school textbooks on what Booker T. said, then they wouldn't be down with his shyt, plain and simple...

I'm a Du Boisian, all day every day and Black Reconstruction is one of the greatest works ever written in history. Ever.

As for debating on Reconstruction, let's do it! I love talking that period as it was one of the period I wrote on when I finished my Masters Thesis...so significant to black lives today, brother. So significant.

With a 28 ACT, you can definitely get a scholarship to a spot like Alabama State or Tennessee State, etc. You can still play ball too, you should definitely hit up the coaching staff of a few spots, send them some film to look at; I played football at Morehouse so I know its a bit crazy to hit up those coaches but they looking for talents and when they hear your ACT score, they will be interested

Nearly 20 Miami-Dade College students charged in ID theft-tax fraud crackdown
By Jay Weaver
Tax fraud schemes have infiltrated the world of higher education with 18 current and former Miami-Dade College coeds being charged with using their student bank accounts to receive upwards of a half-million dollars in fraudulent refunds from the federal government, authorities said Tuesday.

The students are accused of collaborating with other defendants in exchange for receiving kickbacks ranging from $100 to $1,000 for each successful return filed fraudulently with the Internal Revenue Service.

Most of the defendants were arrested by federal agents Tuesday as part of a continuing investigation of ID theft and tax fraud involving more than 1,000 student accounts at the college, authorities said.

U.S. Attorney Wifredo Ferrer said the use of student Higher One accounts to bilk the IRS and innocent taxpayers highlights the “insidious nature” of these twin crimes. Annually, they cost the federal government billions of dollars while creating bureaucratic nightmares for legitimate taxpayers whose identities are stolen.

“This sort of scheme is bleeding into college life,” Ferrer told reporters, after announcing fraud charges brought against a total of 21 defendants. “Allowing their accounts to be used for this purpose is not only wrong but it is criminal and will ruin their lives.”

Ferrer, joined by IRS, FBI and other federal agents, said the tax fraud schemes are not unique to Miami-Dade College, noting they have spread in recent years to other colleges and universities in Florida.

Tuesday’s take-down is the latest in a series of law enforcement operations to confront the persistent problem of identity theft and tax fraud in South Florida, which ranks No. 1 in the country for these types of offenses. While authorities and the IRS have developed more sophisticated methods to stop fraudulent refunds and catch offenders, perpetrators have devised new schemes to fleece the tax collection agency.

One of the lastest, authorities said, has been the exploitation of Higher One accounts on college campuses. The accounts are normally used used to receive financial aid or pay tuition, but at Miami-Dade College dozens of students have been accepting kickbacks while allowing their accounts to receive multiple electronic tax refunds from the IRS.

The 21 defendants, charged in 14 separate cases, were implicated in schemes seeking $1.9 million in fraudulent refunds.

I don't know where to ask this question on this site, but does anyone have any information/experience in regards to Charleston/North Charleston, SC or Fredricksburg, VA? Considering two positions in these areas.

College student intentionally becomes homeless, lives off campus freebies

Patton Chambers may be the only college student who actively blogs about his underwear and ingrown toenails—all the while being homeless.
A senior at Auburn University, Chambers decided to forgo living in his apartment in order to experience the “homeless” lifestyle for the remainder of his college career. According to the 23-year-old, without the stress of working, homelessness has been the best decision he could have made.

“What could I do that would eliminate having to work, would open up big opportunities, and be a really fun, interesting experience for me?” Chambers askedCampus Reform in an interview last week. The physical education major had just finished a run at the campus recreation center and was headed to class.
For Chambers, the decision to become homeless wasn’t necessarily a financial one—although he says he appreciates no longer being burdened by rent—but more of a personal experiment. When Chambers lived in his apartment, he rarely left. He says he is too “awkward” for college parties and didn’t do much dating before he gave up his permanent residency.
So Chambers wanted to “start fresh.” He wanted to leave his comfort zone and do things he’s never done before. And he also wanted to quit his job in the fast food industry.
“One of the reasons [to become homeless] was to get out of working,” Chambers told Campus Reform. “It was just stressful night after stressful night, and anytime I’m getting any kind of unnecessary stress put upon me, it’s total bull crap, and I don’t feel the need to put myself through that because it’s not necessary because if I don’t need stress, why am I having stress?”
“And that’s the big thing,” he said. “All I was really working for was money to pay for rent. Honestly, I would rather be homeless and not have to work. That would be a better life.”
Chambers said for years he worked at Chick-fil-a, and while he could take home as much chicken as he wanted each night, he was never on the same page as his coworkers.
Yet since becoming homeless—or “pansy homeless” as he calls his technology-filled lifestyle—Chambers has met more people, and unlike before, he works to establish deeper relationships with the people he comes into contact with whom he can engage in “quality” conversations.
“I figured the homeless thing, if anything, it would help my dating situation because if not anything else, it’s an icebreaker,” Chambers said, laughing. “Now I have better opportunities to make something happen.”
Of course, Chamber’s experiences have drastically changed, but he’s found that more change doesn’t always mean more challenge.
“For the most part, the university’s got dang good facilities everywhere you look,” he said. “People don’t really take advantage of them, they don’t really appreciate them, I don’t feel like, but they’re everywhere.”
From Sunday night to Friday afternoon, a corner of Auburn’s library transforms into Chamber’s bedroom. The library is open 24 hours during the week, and so far, the security guard hasn’t evicted the student. On the weekends, Chambers sleeps in a tent in the woods near campus.

Any advice for someone who hasn't been in school for 10+ years on preparing for gen ed classes? I actually have a good career but never made it very far education wise.

Thinking about going the CC route with good local online transfer options. With my work paying for I figure no better time to do it. :yeshrug:

Would y'all recommend going to Clark Atlanta or Howard/Hampton? Im already at Ga State majoring in journalism but i just applied for a scholarship that requires you to be at an HBCU. All 3 have a journalism program i just have to pick one.

I have family up in Virginia and Maryland (which i rarely ever see so it would be nice to be up there) but people also come from around the country to come to Atlanta..Which would yall recommend? The scholarship will pay for the tuition so the cost isn't an issue.

The ratio of women to men at Howard is wonderful.
