I have to present our paper at a conference in two weeks. :lupe:

Anyone have any tips for me? I don't wanna embarrass myself in front of all these smart people :whoa::mjcry:

Just make sure you practice and anticipate questions that people might ask you.

Its too much I can say. Ask me specific questions, if you have any.

What I can say is it won't be perfect but, you won't regret coming. It'll change your life.

Dorms. Food. Just the general stuff. I live in Illinois and don't have any time or money to be making college trips

Dorms. Food. Just the general stuff. I live in Illinois and don't have any time or money to be making college trips

Food. The cafe food is great. I only had a meal plan for one semester. We had a kitchen, so it made more sense to buy my own groceries after a while. If I was you, I'd go for the 14 Meal Plan. After your first semester, you can increase it or lower it. They also have restaurants in Blackburn (our cafeteria's name) that you can use Bison Bucks/Dining Dollars at. Chinese food. WOW wings (chicken wings, burgers and sandwiches). Had a Chick Fila in there before but, WOW wings replaced them :upsetfavre:

Dorms. I was older (21) when I got to Howard, so I stayed at the Towers. You can only stay there if you're an Honors student or over 21. Look into it when you're an upperclassmen. My godbrother went to Howard fresh outta high school. He stayed in Drew Hall. Loved it. Try to get in Drew, if possible. Howard might try to stick you in a dorm in a residence hall off campus. You'll get tired of taking a shuttle back and forth to your dorm between classes.

Classes. Please take a look at the campus map before you pick your schedule. Howard's campus sits on a big ass hill and climbing it everyday sucks. They have a shuttle but, still. Douglass Hall, Locke Hall, Founder's Library sit on top but, other buildings like the Chemistry Building or the Communications Building are at the bottom. You don't want to have to walk up and down, and up and down and up and down. Oh yea....don't do 8 AM classes. Don't do it to yourself.

Take summer courses. You can knock out 6-9 credits easy. DC has internships all over the city, so you can still do summer semesters and work (you can also do them year round, so that's good too). While everyone else will be stressed, struggling to meet their credit requirements for graduation (anywhere from 120-130) four years from now, you'll be good.

The Administration Building. Keep copies of EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING. I don't want to discourage you from coming but, that's the one thing all Howard kids complain about. Make as few visits there as possible.

DC's a wonderful city. The Metro is the city's subway system. One of the best public transportation systems in the country. Howard has two stations, Shaw/Howard and Cardozo. Most kids take the Shaw/Howard stop but, Cardozo's actually closer. Green/Yellow line services Howard. When you're not in class, explore the city. Chinatown/Penn Quarter is the city's downtown area. Restaurants. Movie theater. Museum. Georgetown is a nice upscale neighborhood. No direct subway there though. Columbia Heights is right next to Howard. You'll most likely go there for shopping, it has a Target/Giant Grocery/Best Buy. U Street is next to Howard too. Lots of bars, restaurants and clubs. Check out Adams Morgan, Dupont Circle and Rosslyn/Arlington/Alexandria (which are right over the bridge in Virginia). Oh yea....Pentagon City Mall is a major shopping mall that's accessible by the Metro. Avoid Southeast DC as much as possible

Homecoming is the GOAT time at Howard. Yardfest (a free concert), the Stepshow, the football game, alumni parade, After parties. My first year there I saw Rick Ross, Lupe over at Georgetown U, J Cole and Pusha at the Stepshow. Last year it was Drake, Meek Mill, 2 Chainz, TI and Pusha. Whole weekend blurred into one long day. You'll thank yourself you came to HU every Homecoming :lawdeddie:

Let me know if you have anymore questions.
