Master degree for now.

Whether it's a good idea depends on what you are trying to do afterward, whether a master's degree is really going to help you get there, and how much it's going to set you back financially. To be completely honest, a lot of people beat the system by applying to fully funded phd programs and simply leave after their masters degree (debt free). Of course that would mean you have to play the game a pretend that you are there for the long haul, but a lot of people use that strategy to get a free masters.

What do you want to do career wise?

What do you mean by applying to a fully funded PHD program? I don't really know yet I love politics and would like to work in City/state/government form of jobs such as planner etc... I have a bachelors in information technology and I want my masters in a different that can also benefit me in the long run.

At most reputable universities, phd students don't pay tuition and they receive a living stipend while completing graduate work. They get these benefits in exchange for doing research or working in a campus office (an assistantship). Many PhD programs are designed to allow students to earn a master's degree along the way. However, instead of continuing on to get their PhD, many students simply leave after receiving the free master's degree.

For instance, I was in a PhD program. I was funded (no tuition and I received a living stipend); however, I left last year after they awarded me my master's degree.

Before you decide on either path, you need to really map out what you want to do, where you see yourself going, and what TYPE of graduate degree you want. Graduate work in political science is going to be mostly academic and research focused (not very applied at all). However, there are applied graduate/professional graduate degrees that will focus on giving you real world skills. Graduate school is a huge undertaking so really think about it.

If you go to job websites and look up city planning postings, the educational qualifications typically list preferred/required degree as urban planning, architecture, city planning, geography and etc. There were also postings that simply listed bachelors plus one year experience in planning.

This woman tried to get a PhD in biomedical sciences but didn't pass her oral exam to become a PhD candidate. She had to leave the program but they gave her a masters degree. Here, in an older video, she explains the benefits of a PhD program, no cost plus a stipend.

That sucks. That happened to one person I know. Hopefully she can find another program if she really wants to finish her PhD

Just knocked out summer session with ease :ahh:.

Not looking forward to taking these 15 credit hours in the fall :sadcam:.

Thank God im a much better student now at 26 than I was at 18/19.
I'm in the same boat. My GPA would be like a 3.7 if it wasn't for my first attempt at college

Breh, I know the feeling. I had to pull my GPA up from the damn dead cus I gave no fukks during my first year. :snoop:. I dropped out after that and took a 5 year break. I went back last year and have been a better student than ive ever been. But resuscitating an old ass GPA from the dead is such a damn chore :to:
Luckily, during my first stint I only took 9 credit hours (one semester). When I was in the military I took a class here and there and made good grades. I did started back full time this past spring (12 credit hrs) and did the summer semester as well (8 credit hrs).

I'm taking 18 credit hours this fall :lupe:
