TBH, it boils down if the person wants to got to either or. Since you're from California, your options are very thin (there's one HBCU in Cali, but it's an graduate school) unless you are willing to go out of state and them OOS fees is not joke, you're better off looking at the schools that around you. HBCUs biggest issue is getting funds from their alumni, where as PWIs don't really have that issue. And lastly, what's the degree you're going after because there are some HBCUs that specialize in certain degree programs similar to PWIs, for example I got an Computer Science degree that's something Texas Southern doesn't specialize in where as UTA, Texas Tech and Rice will have more programs, more options on networking and recruits will more likely frequent around those schools more (even UoH would have more options for the students for the three I listed, as oppose to Texas Southern). However, Texas Southern will have better programs for those pursue Health and Law.For the final time…HBCU vs pwi? Imma California boy so just about any HBCU is outta state, they do lack presence in banking other than HowU so maybe I answered my own question
Overall, banking is an issue and not getting a lot of funding from their alumni, HBCUs are mostly in the east coast and the south, PWIs are everywhere. At the end of the day, just to any good school that have good programs to help you obtain your degree, get good grade, go to the study halls if you're struggling, network and enjoy yourself.
