We graduated
Took awhile didn't know I'd ever make it but I got it done
Now I have to find a job. I've been on indeed and other site for the last two months but haven't had any luck. Now that I have my degree, B.S. Mechanical Engineering, I hope that will change. I'm going to reapply for the Navy Depo around me and for the state and hopefully I can get my foot in the door at one of those places.
Been pretty quiet in here this semester. How's everybody's classes going? I got about two more weeks left before summer break, thank God
Right now I'm in a good position to get all A's again, but three of those A's could turn into B's depending on finals. Either way, I'm doing better than I did in high school. It really is better for some people to go to college later when they're older and more focused.
Anyway, good luck with ya'll finals if you haven't taken it already. Summer is around the corner
As a fresh graduate, I can't stress enough the important of lining up a job before you graduate, look for new grad programs a lot of companies have them, and apply even if you do not meet all of the qualifications.
Sign up for LinkedIn and fill your profile with all the relevant information, and when you are ready to find a job activate the free month of premium (remember to cancel at the end its $30).
While you have premium, look at the linkedin learning section, and complete some courses for whatever yo want to do (assuming you didn't major in it) they have a wide range of certs, they are free and very easy.
Your first job out of college, is important, starting at 30k vs 60k will have a big impact on your life direction. Good luck everybody, I am so glad to be done, until that Stanford or Harvard MBA rolls around.
Yeah you can do it, make sure to look at GRE averages for whatever you want to study at Harvard, so you can prep for that score.. I’m
Nervous but I'm excited. One school I am shooting for is Harvard. People laugh at me but I’m serious. I can do it. Honestly, the requirements are easy it’s just ...Harvard
Congrats and wish you well

Yeah you can do it, make sure to look at GRE averages for whatever you want to study at Harvard, so you can prep for that score.
Remember your essay will be very important all the top students will be applying there so it’s not all about stats, but if you can meet the baseline then your essay and ECs will be what sets you apart.
Also, you need some research experience, I would recommend doing an independent research class if you can at my school it was a 199. I had to have an advisor (find a teacher, mine was the head of my department), you have to set a contract for what it will be about and length.
Or if you can get in a lab, but i think research experience will go a long way to keep you competitive for Harvard or most grad school programs.
Also, plan out your letters or recommendations now, start cozying up and getting to know them, if you do the independent research your advisor should be able to write one since you’ll probably have meetings with them throughout the quarter/semester.
Have you heard good things about IBM or something??
I plan to apply their when I graduate it's one of the handful of Major Tech companies who have offices down here in Louisiana
Applied for 2017/18 school year, any tips from y'all for a black man going to school in the next 4 years?
IBM seems pretty cool then they also seem big on diversity and inclusion. And I'm out in Lafayette at UL went to LSU my freshman year thoughI helped a friend get a job there. They hired this person 3 weeks after graduating high school. They pay very well and they have brother sister relationship with Harvard so you can take courses there via online.
Louisiana? I’m out there as well for undergrad. You must go to Tech or LSU

I just need the GRE
I know most schools want a writing sample which I have. I have to update it with more research. Speaking of research, You mentioned research experience. Does a “dissertation” count? I wouldn’t call to an essay but that paper was literally research but I didn’t publish it.
Any recommendations for history; education majors?
I submitted a portion of my thesis for grad apps. I got into two programs. Applied to 10. Attending one in the fall with a scholarship.
I'm doing well. I started a job, that I interviewed for in February, last week. The people are nice and seems like there will different stuff I can do. I bookmarked your links in case someone I know needs them in the future.
