Anybody got the hookup on where to find some of these college textbooks for the low low.

We already had to go through so much just so I could pay tuition for the year and get into this junt but these textbooks mane. I don't want me dad to have to be coughing up even more money for me. I feel so bad.

:mjcry:

Any help for a freshman brehette would be greatly appreciated.

I found one of my textbooks that I would have had to pay $65 dollars for, the used one at that, on this website.

Couldn't find the one for my African American Studies class but money saved is money saved.

Thank you so much breh! I really appreciate it!

What's your major and what do you want to do in life?

Recording Indurstry Music Business with a double minor in Business Administration and African American Studies.

My dream would be to run a recording studio but specialize in r&b and soul music and have the entire thing be completely black ran. From the artists that make the music and present it to the lawyers and sound engineers. All aspects of it would be black not just the entertainment.

More realistically i'd probably like to just work in a recording studio or in the A&R side of a record label or maybe even publishing. Also getting a job at any of the major streaming companies would be a major goal seeing how streaming is the future and record deals are kinda going out of style:

If the recording industry thing in general doesn't work out or I don't find a job within the industry that's when i'd like to lean back on the business side of the degree and my business administration minor to get a job in the business field. Preferably in marketing or public relations of some sort.

I want to add African American studies as my minor not only because it's the thing that i'm the most interested and passionate about but because I feel it could spice up my resume among other applicants and make me stand out a bit more. It's also more opportunity to flex my writing skills which is one of my best talents academically.

Career wise I could probably also fall back on it if I happened to find a job related to human resources or community service of some sort or maybe some sort of non-profit/advocacy groups. Also my professor told us that one of the recent graduates even got a job at museum for African Americans in Music i believe through his AAS minor so that's another possiblity I would love. Working in a museun dedicated to black history, wherever one would hire me.

I know I ain't gone be rich doing none of this, or at least earning as much as I would be if I would do STEM, but I would be happy and hopefully making a difference of some sort. As long as I make enough to live comfortably and support my dad i'm cool.

:ehh: Props for a thought out response. Not everyone is cut out for STEM so it's good to see people going for business and/or social science degrees with a plan. I can't tell you how many times I've heard buddies majors with the catch-all, "I want to start my own business:mjgrin:!" Ok yeah but... doing what:usure:?

The important thing for you will be to really work your school's clubs and organizations and make industry connections. I know a guy, admittedly he ain't shyt, that majored in Music Industry and the like and he's floundered around. If your program brings in speakers then make sure you attend.

If they're an option in your curriculum you might consider an accounting class or two because handing money is a business operation that can be overlooked. And try to capitalize on internships because lord knows I wish I did :francis:.

Thanks!

I got my eyes set out on the museum I mentioned my AAS professor told me about. The museum of African American music in Nashville and he said they are in need of a lot of interns. If I got an internship there it would be the perfect combination of both of my interests. That's my goal for second semester, summer 2018, or my sophmore year year God-willing.

As of right now i'm just waiting on my campus's organization fair so I can join a few clubs.

Also just got a job at the on-campus production services that plan, host, and run all of the campus concerts and events featuring music artists.

Not only will that help me out with the money I desperately need right now but it's just up my ally as far as the music industry thing goes. I plan to work on as many events as I can not only for the extra chedda but so I can build some experience and finesse these connections.

I ain't waisting no time in this joint. Can't afford to literally and figuratively.

Hang in there breh, I know it's easier said than done but try not to let your assumptions of other peoples expectations get you down. This will pass.

Dropping out tomorrow I feel like failure
You really need to rethink that. You sound worried about having let people down but you haven't. College isn't easy, it's not supposed to be easy. It's a stepping stone for greater things in life. You need to get back on the horse and ride breh. It took me 7 years to finish and I have dinner friends that took 8, 9, and 10 years. I failed and repeated almost all of my physics classes, a few of my math classes, and a few essential computer science classes. Keep your eye on the prize.

Tell the people who want to see you walk that you're dealing with some setbacks and you have to push things back but you're still in it. You're in the unique position of breaking the hood curse. If you don't want to end up like those dudes then, quite simply, don't. Seize the opportunity you have because they're hard to come by. I mean this sincerely dude. Don't be a statistic.
