I don't know where I stand with Biopics because they are the only genre that the audience doesn't all start at the same place, for the most part anyway (trailers and such). Peoples prior knowledge, or the lack thereof, has so much influence on their opinion. Theory of Everything, Imitation Game, and Selma do not work as a whole unless you've got some prior knowledge about the people imo, they all feel like biopics. Thats where Foxcatcher stands out for me vs. Theory of Everything, Imitation Game, and Selma, at no point I thought "I wonder if this really happened this way", even tho I knew it was a biopic, while watching because I was so invested in the characters and the story.
