I finally have time to catch a movie club flick :blessed:

Was hard to find, tho, had to go with a 6 gig rip. Not a problem to get, but I don't think I'll be holding on to this one. :patrice:

Solid movie. Much better than I expected. It's no wonder it got slept on so heavy (i had never heard of it).... the idea of Vin Diesel as a mobster :mjlol:

But he was actually very good. Plus my nikka Tyrion getting it in. I had no real problems with it. Length was fine, never felt like a drag to watch. Had no complaints about the supporting actors. I thought his cousin did a GREAT job in his limited role. No problems with the other mobsters as well. I guess the prosecutor was meh, but he never detracted from the story. Overall solid flick. 6.5/10.

This movie did kinda highlight how ridiculous I think our justice (jury) system is. They listened to nearly 2 years worth of arguments, testimony, and evidence and gave a verdict in 14 hours. :comeon:
I pray to God I never find myself at the mercy of a fickle ass jury. They likely know little to nothing about the law outside of the guidance they're given during that trial. I wonder if anyone has ever really studied juries like that from an academic standpoint?
Nice review.

Agreed about the juries.

After seeing the movie I read up on the case and its been said Jackie Dinorscio(Who Vin portrayed) was THE reason they were found not guilty. The jury fell in in love with his personality.

They even touched on it in the movie "a laughing jury isnt a hanging jury."

Syndey has touched on the subject of juries before with 12 angry Men.

Its kind of a fascinating area. Obviously no system will be perfect but selecting a jury onto itself is such a huge part of how a case turns out. Their just every day people, that come with their own biases.

Ok, finally sat down to watch this and I was actually shocked at how good Vin Diesel is in it...I've been one of the biggest anti-Fast and Furious people on the coli and most of it is due to Vin Diesel: I always saw him as the least interesting person in ANY movie, even his Riddikk films...But here, dude seems to be having the most fun he ever had; This movie made me think: why doesn't he do more films like this? Then I remembered, we are in a capitalist society and he needs to money;

That being said, the most enjoyable part of the movie was Vin Diesel chewing the scenery, which I thought he could never do...the story was cool but I didn't like any of the supporting characters...it was like they were sleepwalking through their roles, almost like they were supposed to give way to Diesel. For the first time EVER, Vin Diesel had personality and it was great. I hope he does more films like this.'

7/10 for Diesel and the storyline; Negatives: Supporting cast/writing for supporting characters
Vins had such a strange career.

I first noticed him from his saving private ryan and boiler room. Thought he was great in both. After that I looked up his work and watched "Strays" and multi facial". Strays was actually alright, he wrote and directed it and a young Mike Epps was in it. Multi facial was just a short. It was intetesting and obviously very personal about a guy trying to make it in acting and using his appearance to audition for roles in pretty much every race.

Pitch black and the fast and the furious were his break out but after that I dont understand his choices in movies. Or his love for riddikk. Pitch black was actually a great sci fi horror flick but if you had told me theyd try to make it a franchise with animated film and video games included id be like :russ:.....funny enough the riddikk video game is better than all the movies.

shyt like pacifier and babylon ad and xxx were all so so terrible.

His dream project has always been to do a movie about the general Hannibal Barca.

Id much prefer that then another riddikk movie....which is planned. :smh:

Regarding the whole tagging issue:

Sometimes I get the notifications, sometimes I don't, but I don't get the big deal...we all know there's a new movie every week, and that thread gets stickied. It's not like new movies are picked randomly throughout the month. I can't believe anyone is really missing out cuz they're not getting tagged. :yeshrug:

I actually think there should be a movie club subforum that only mods can create threads in (i.e. move threads to, but we can all still post in the threads). May not be possible, but if it is, I think it would be worth it as it'll give people opportunities to watch movies we've already covered. Put the date in the thread title and we'll have a catalog of movies we've covered. :ehh:
Well the thing is I only noticed The movie club as it was advertised as a main header on the forum not just the sub forum.

I signed up but never participated the firzt few weeks because i wasnt getting my notifications and kinda forgot about it.

Ive been spending more of my time in the film room so now its not much of an issue but i know people were like me. Signed up, arent getting notifications and dont regularily check the film room and miss out.

I will give this a 4/5 based on what I remember about it. I remember having no complaints.

I couldn't locate it in my normal stash (Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, HBOGo) so I didn't get a chance to re-watch.

The production company at the start has the worst logo build I've ever seen.

First scene is fukking strange.

"Who do you call?"
"I call Saul" :troll:

The music selection before the trial is also strange

vin diesel farting :mjlol:

Haha what kinda of casual prison is this that lets prisoners take laz-e-boys everywhere they go

That's a lifestyle

Peter Dinklinge doing a good job

That butcher joke was fantastic

The production value looks like it's a play in parts

Is the point of the 3 sec mouse scene to make us like Vin Diesel more? Meh

No chair for Vinny by the table :sadcam:

Vin Diesel character seems to be going from stupid to smart scene from scene

fukk they ruined Vin Diesel I vote no speech with that music. It would've been much more powerful without the music

Jail guard fight was weak

This movie needs more intense moments, everytime we a intense moment it's so clear Lumet is master of drama.

Overall it's a fine movie, worst Lumet movie I've seen but whatever. I feel like the movie is too goofy and Vin Diesel character goes from stupid to smart and back again, over and over. Music selection is maybe the worst part of the movie.

It's a 6 out of 10
