I'm not really good at writing reviews(I use to do it at another site so I'll keep it short.) The movie itself was a pretty enjoyable flick, they managed to make what seemed to be a fairly large event in the history prosecution specifically against the Mafia into a intimate film about a man living up to his loyalty.

Pros:
Vin's performance
Dinklage
A surprising amount of comedy
I liked that they didn't go too in-depth with dudes lack of experience as a lawyer. When I read the plot I figure we'd get like 30 minutes of this dude doing some Rocky like training learning about the law and shyt but they didn't go that route.

Cons:
Film was really long. I felt like the story could of been trimmed to around 80 minutes or so but the shyt was 125 minutes
Although Vin put on a good performance and I don't know what the dude who it's based off looks like, it's hard to imagine Vin Diesel as some blonde haired mobster. Shyt kind of looked cartoony for lack of a better word at times.

This is the guy Vito played, the real Fat Jack DiNorscio

I love this movie. Really do. Vin Diesel is excellent in it, Dinklage is great in it especially as the exasperated attorney and everything works. It's got a great amount of comedy and a surprising amount of heart which completely caught me by surprise when I saw it but in retrospect, it's a Sidney Lummet film so now I would expect it. The court scenes all work because of Diesel, he does a lot of heavy lifting in it and it's awesome. It's a great character study of a guy who is willing to sacrifice it all for his family and to be real, when I first saw it, shyt teared me up a little bit. The family wasn't always kind to the guy, didn't always treat him the best way at all, but he was willing to risk everything for them and I really responded to that and for that, I'll always be a fan of the film and a fan of Vin Diesel. 4/5

@MartyMcFly @kp404 we need to get a master list of club members done for @cook so he can add it to the movie club record thread. Notifications havent been working properly when we do it so we need that master list for a mod to do it each new week.

I make 100% of my posts through my phone so its a pain the ass for me to do :heh: one of you should get to work :heh:

Ok, finally sat down to watch this and I was actually shocked at how good Vin Diesel is in it...I've been one of the biggest anti-Fast and Furious people on the coli and most of it is due to Vin Diesel: I always saw him as the least interesting person in ANY movie, even his Riddikk films...But here, dude seems to be having the most fun he ever had; This movie made me think: why doesn't he do more films like this? Then I remembered, we are in a capitalist society and he needs to money;

That being said, the most enjoyable part of the movie was Vin Diesel chewing the scenery, which I thought he could never do...the story was cool but I didn't like any of the supporting characters...it was like they were sleepwalking through their roles, almost like they were supposed to give way to Diesel. For the first time EVER, Vin Diesel had personality and it was great. I hope he does more films like this.'

7/10 for Diesel and the storyline; Negatives: Supporting cast/writing for supporting characters

I finally have time to catch a movie club flick :blessed:

Was hard to find, tho, had to go with a 6 gig rip. Not a problem to get, but I don't think I'll be holding on to this one. :patrice:

Solid movie. Much better than I expected. It's no wonder it got slept on so heavy (i had never heard of it).... the idea of Vin Diesel as a mobster :mjlol:

But he was actually very good. Plus my nikka Tyrion getting it in. I had no real problems with it. Length was fine, never felt like a drag to watch. Had no complaints about the supporting actors. I thought his cousin did a GREAT job in his limited role. No problems with the other mobsters as well. I guess the prosecutor was meh, but he never detracted from the story. Overall solid flick. 6.5/10.

This movie did kinda highlight how ridiculous I think our justice (jury) system is. They listened to nearly 2 years worth of arguments, testimony, and evidence and gave a verdict in 14 hours. :comeon:
I pray to God I never find myself at the mercy of a fickle ass jury. They likely know little to nothing about the law outside of the guidance they're given during that trial. I wonder if anyone has ever really studied juries like that from an academic standpoint?

Regarding the whole tagging issue:

Sometimes I get the notifications, sometimes I don't, but I don't get the big deal...we all know there's a new movie every week, and that thread gets stickied. It's not like new movies are picked randomly throughout the month. I can't believe anyone is really missing out cuz they're not getting tagged. :yeshrug:

I actually think there should be a movie club subforum that only mods can create threads in (i.e. move threads to, but we can all still post in the threads). May not be possible, but if it is, I think it would be worth it as it'll give people opportunities to watch movies we've already covered. Put the date in the thread title and we'll have a catalog of movies we've covered. :ehh:
