So nobody saw it? Or were you all kinda indifferent to it as I (surprisingly) ended up being? It is a movie of great ideas and even many great scenes but it never seems to gel together and make it work as a coherent experience. Like Inside Llewyn Davis it just ends up feeling sorta "there". I hope this doesn't mean that the Coens are slowly entering their second slump.
While it looks great it did disappoint me. It felt really unfocused, often lacking both drama and comedy, stunt casting. Every scene with Hobie in it was boring and so was every scene in the beach house. Frankly I don't know what kind of movie Coen's were trying to make except for a Hollywood spoof of some kind.
After rewatching the trailer in the OP it makes you think that big actors in Hollywood are investigating who kidnapped their friend who the is world biggest movie star, looking for clues on different movie sets, while raising money for the ransom because if Hail, Caesar! fails the studio will go bankrupt.
That would've been a much better movie.
