Not surprising. Where I live there are TONS of electric cars and hybrids on the roads. There are times where it seems like almost every 5th car is electric. There are also a bunch of charging stations popping up everywhere.

I do think electric cars are the future, but it'll be a while before they are the go-to car, but car manufacturers want to be ahead of it, not behind.

an electric car has one moving part, the motor, whereas a gasoline-powered car has hundreds of moving parts. not only do electric cars require less workers to assemble them, they also require less mechanics to fix them. so the amount of jobs lost due to electric cars is actually greater than this article has suggested.

10k jobs worldwide isn't much. Some of them can work at the charging stations :ehh:

Oh wait, there's not enough of those to support all these cars they think they're gonna sell :mjlol:

“Yall crazy, these jobs get list and replaced with new ones.”
Keep that energy for the cats that say that shyt. Innovation has sped up as well as productivity. The world isnt suddenly goi NY to create new jobs because there are evolutions in old products. Those new products are being replaced with new building methods, and 10,000 people are suddenly going to get jobs doing maintenance on robots. Face it, the biggest innovations require less manpower and its going to accelerate in the first world.
So what will happen to all those mechanics when hydrogen or electric cars hit the market . Brakes ,struts & shocks will need to to replaced along with bodywork

Unlike gasoline cars, electric vehicles require no traditional oil changes, fuel filters, spark plug replacements or emission checks. In most cases, you can wave goodbye to changing timing belts, differential fluid and transmission fluid. EV brake pad replacements are less frequent because regenerative braking returns energy to the battery, significantly reducing wear on mechanical brakes because they’re used less to slow the vehicle.

The Chevy Bolt’s maintenance schedule requires owners to rotate tires every 7,500 miles, replace the cabin air filter every 22,500 miles and have the coolant flushed every 150,000, according to Chevrolet. “And . . . yeah, that’s it,” as one writer recently mused. Some of those parts can be purchased online for less than $20.

less demand for repairs means there will be waves of layoffs to reflect the fact that electric cars just break down less. the technology is just better.

you pointed out that bodywork will still be needed by people. and that is true until the cars start driving themselves and are able to avoid road accidents better than people can.

Numerous test have proven that lidar is not good at detecting stalled or parked objects infront of these vehicles that use it

We are so cavalier with this saying.

Let's see how the energy is when AI threatens your job, or better yet, when we get AI into politics and it starts affecting the cushy jobs in politics, law etc.
