If you weren't there you wouldn't understand. I had that 5 mic issue of The Source and hung the quotable on my wall. Illmatic didn't come out until much later so I waited to hear that verse after memorizing the words. AZ killed it with the flow/energy and Nas brought more poetry/visuals/depth and that connected with me. I hate when people say who killed who because they both gave us two of the best verses ever. Just stop and appreciate greatness.

I switched my motto
'Stead of saying "fukk tomorrow"
That buck that bought a bottle
Coulda struck the lotto

:wow: That line spoke to me on a personal level.

And then Olu Dara came through and brought it all home :wow:

Top 5 musical experience for me.

This was the song that put AZ on the map but to me Nas' verse is over looked a bit. Lowkey it might be his best verse on the album

woke up early on my born day Im 20 its a blessing, the essence of adolescence leave my body now Im fresh and :blessed:

My physical frame is celebrated cuz I made it, one quarter thru life this godly like thing created:win:

Got rhymes 365 days annual plus some, load up a mic and bust one cuss while I puss from :mindblown:

My skull cuz its pain in my brain vein money maintain don't go against the grain simple and plain

When I was young at this I used to do my thing hard, robbing foreigners, take their wallets their jewels and rip their green cards

:demonic:

Dipped to the projects flashing my quick cash and got my first piece of ass smoking blunts with hash :ahh:

Now its all about cash in abundance, nikkas I used to run with are rich or doing years in the hundreds :francis:

I switched my motto instead of saying fukk tomorrow that buck that bought a bottle could've struck the lotto
:usure:

Once I stood on the block loose cracks produced stacks I cooked up and cut small pieces to get my loot back
:mjcry:
Time is Ilmatic keep static like wool fabric pack a four matic to crack your whole cabbage :wow:
:mjcry:

:blessed:

Nas don't need to rely on literary devices like that tho. That's what makes him special. Dude is seriously an idiot savant as a writer. He has no training, yet he strings together words to covey thoughts and emotions at an elite level. He puts you in a place and time better than anyone to ever do it.

People swear the 90s was the height of his lyrical prowess, but verse 1 of Thief's Theme says different ("rats drink from water drops" :whoo:). Loco-motive says different. Illmatic was so stunning because of his age. Precociousness always heightens artistic achievement. But, he's gotten better since then.

That whole track is vivid.

'Deaf crack fiends who can't speak scream noises. Cause they bought a drum of soap from one of my soldiers'

Be forced to edit your empty ass comment where you're not saying anything brehs. I didn't cutoff shyt. The OP cut the verse up that way.

I just don't get why you people take Nas so serious. Cats actually get offended at opinions that don't praise him as gawd. Grown men actually hurt over my opinion:scusthov: If you can't challenge what I said then fukk you mad for? This is a hiphop forum and people can't even discuss the shyt freely because fans are so bytchmade emotionally invested in the artists.

".....cause it's pain in my brain vein"
The fukk is a "brain-vein"? That's a brilliant lyric?

Not understand the dynamic relationship between nouns and adjectives brehs
Be dumb brehs
