To short you can sell to open a call or buy to open a put. Selling to open gives you the premium fee upfront but your downside is unlimited. Buying to open means you pay the premium upfront and have unlimited upside. You can lose all the money you put in with buying but you can lose unlimited amounts selling.

Word of advice with options. Never ever sell to open(bullish or bearish) unless you know exactly what you're doing.

I thought you was doing like the type of shorting where you actually borrow shares like what them hedge funds worked over in gme the first time. I do options myself just not real deal shorting of stocks.
