The Blueprint and Blueprint 2 both outsold stillmatic and God son. Where did the narrative that Nas won come from?

Jay Z lost the battle with Nas when Ether hit

Jay selling more records than Nas is irrelevant

and I actually like Jay more than Nas, but it is what it is, Nas won the battle

it trips me out when some people say Nas won the battle, but Jay Z won the war

Nas won the battle.

I don’t think there's ever been any question about that. And I think if Hov were being honest, he would say he lost that too. That was just some good Hip Hop sh*t going on. 2 MC's going at it with records, and Nas got him. Jay didn't expect that kind of a reply. And it was mad out of character for Nas, which made it so crazy back then.

Jay's excelled at pretty much everything else he's done musically, and in business, definitely financially. So he's had a lot more wins than Nas in a lot of other areas, but when it comes to that moment in Hip Hop history, as fans, I think we can all agree that Nas left that situation with the W. It happens to the best of them. Every legend in Hip Hop had to take some kind of L at one point or another. "Ether" was Hov's.

I think 50 and Kanye started the trend historically...been downhill ever since.
Yes. This more specifically. But 50 cent started the infatuation with sales for fans.

Of course you want your favorite artists to be successful.

But it's just like wrestling. Why should a fan give a fukk how many seats a show sells?

Hate this fukking argument.
