are you saying the wealth gap is negligible?

if so, point me to the data cause I'd welcome that news
No, I’m not.

I am saying we gotta stop looking at this from a racial lens and just target everyone at that top.

There are more white people there, obviously, but those black 1%ers are not our friends.

The wealth gap among those at the top of black people is actually greater than among whites.

I know it wasn't your intention, but I googled a bit and it seems the gap ain't that bad when you take out the top 10%.

What's most sad is that the top Black earners are below the 2nd highest White group.

I disagree. The wealth gap would be just as bad, maybe worse.

Reparations is the only way to close the wealth gap, though.

But I was saying something slightly different, which is: In 2022 the government is not in the way of Black wealth.
But that’s not really saying anything if they created the system that’s in place today that suppressed black wealth

We're gonna have to agree to disagree then,

Reparations would be the most impactful solution, outside of that I can't think of policy solutions that come close to having a similar impact. A shift in attitudes regarding marriage and when/how many kids Black folks have would likely move the needle the most from a cultural change. Having kids in our late 30s could be a talking point, but too many Black conservatives and traditionalists are stuck in 1989 and still harping on Black kids being born out of wedlock.

I support reparations, but why perpetuity?

Why you think the government is in black peoples way to wealth?
If reparations are not received in perpetuity it will ultimately do more harm than good IMO.
:yeshrug:

Any barriers to entry into the market disproportionately hinder those economically at the bottom IMO

Example: does requiring a license/permit/certification with a $2000 price tag hinder the rich or the poor… and if it hinders both who is hindered more?

That’s not an argument against licensure, just illustrating how the rules of the game make the economic climb much rougher for those at the bottom.

Ya'll poo pooed on mans in that other thread talking about life insurance. My Dad left my moms a pretty nice chunk of change. Unfortunately, she has Vasuclar dementia after a stroke. so a lot of that is going to her care. But yeah. Life insurance is a big deal.

This is worse than just a much tougher sell to white people (although that's bad enough), it's a poison pill. If the harm done by slavery cannot be compensated for by any fixed amount of money, any amount of money given as reparations would be seen as a waste. It also suggests a lack of belief in black people to better ourselves given the means to do so. Instead, you'd have us be wards of white people until the end of time.:camby:
